I can only hope that the combination of public disapproval, action from within the US government (LOLsob?!) and complaints - or, dare we hope, refusal of duty?? - from the rank-and-file will somehow help end this fucking atrocity as soon as humanly possible. What a disgrace, in every way.

I have always been uneasy at the insertion of religion into *literally any context* apart from religious institutions themselves, and even then only when people aren't coerced into attending. So the idea of far-right religious zealots running the biggest armed forces on the planet is *terrifying.*

I was pissed off enough about a cardboard ark, as a kid in a zero-stakes context. I can only imagine how angry troops must be, suddenly conscripted into Christian nationalism with orders to kill people for the cause. Even though I'm far from being a US military apologist, this is fucking bananas.

I thought about this now because I just learned that Hegseth has told American soldiers they're fighting a holy war to bring on Armageddon. Apparently 200 complaints have been filed from various soldiers, some - but importantly, not nearly all - Jewish and Muslim.

I complained. I lost my case, because nobody was taking grade 5 (or 6?) students seriously in the late 80s. So I had to make a damn boat. Which I did, but I remained grumpy about it, and clearly I still haven't forgotten my resentment at the forced religious activity in a secular school.

we all had to do the same final project, which involved building a scale model of Noah's Ark out of Bristol board. Now I do love an art project, but I was peeved on principle because why was I being forced to do a religious project for grades when I wasn't Catholic and wasn't taking religion class?
