Another day, another train, another prison survey visit - this time at HMP Cardiff.
We spoke with 53 people on their prison wings about the impact of #NationalPrisonRadio.
Here is just one snippet:
"It's another avenue for release, prison is stressful and it helps the world not get on top of you."

Wales is getting screwed over by the Treasury (again).
A deliberate decision has robbed public sector bodies in Wales of money while protecting those in England.
This is fiddly but really outrageous. You can either watch the video or read below...

โ The Lord Chancellorโs decision to block the Sentencing Councilโs guidance on pre-sentence reports is a deliberate step backwards.
Blocking progress is not about fairness, itโs about maintaining a status quo that already fails too many.

The applications system is often poorly managed in prisons. Paper applications get lost in piles of requests, and prisoners donโt always get enough time to use electronic kiosks.
Around 15% can use tablets or laptops to make applications, but some prisons cap the number and the length of requests, which limits their effectiveness.
25.03.2025 08:55 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0
Prisoners rely almost entirely on staff to manage their everyday requests, either through informal conversations or by submitting formal, written โapplicationsโ.
But staff shortages and inexperience can mean prisoners do not always get the help they need. This can lead to frustration and poor behaviour.
Our report โEasier said than done: resolving prisoner requestsโ, published today, reveals how hard it is for prisoners to get basic things done in jail.
