The tin dog's tail wags and ears whir in response, the closest it can approximate to a smile. As he begins gathering up the pieces, the Doctor's attention returns to the rest of the world.

"So, what brings someone like -

The pieces automatically move, his king falling over. The board plays a little victory fanfare in celebration. Though one might expect a negative reaction after his turn, Four gracefully reaches out to -

+ than it really needed. Given that it was a no stakes game, one might expect a little more grace in looming defeat.

"You can't really expect me to fall for a trap like this, can you?"

With a derisive snort, he moves another piece on the board, capturing the intruding piece. Grinning once more, -

"Yes, yes, off and on our way in a bit. Once we've had our fill of chess and pastries, anyway."

Once the requisite piece of candy had been taken, the bag was crumpled once more and tucked away in a pocket. Beyond that, his attention was locked on the board, clearly devoting more thought to it -

+ stood back up, confidently ignoring how correct the time lady had been.

"Now then, the TARDIS feels like working again, the question remains regarding a destination. A quick trip to the Andromeda Galaxy sounds fun. Perhaps when humanity finally arrives?"

"Nominal cortex, as if I'd forget such a thing," he muttered. Thankfully, she was across the console from him, so he could crouch down to examine, and fiddle with, the underside of that section.

A moment, and a thump, later, and the rotor began to Bob up and down as the ship took off. The Doctor -

"If I did, would I admit to it? I'll concede it's gotten caught in the TARDIS door a time or two..."

That wasn't something most people considered asking about, though thankfully any trips had been low stakes.

"Besides, another loop takes up the slack just fine!"

Frustration clear in the way he jabbed at the controls, eyes moving to the rotor and noting how it failed to move.

"How many times have I told you I don't care what the manual says about the control configuration?"

His hand ran over the colorful yarn, causing the end, dangling just over the tip of his boot. The indignity of his fashion sense being impugned left him with his head tilting back, looking down his nose just a bit.

+ Turning his attention from the game, the dog seemed to find his move, and his protestation.

The piece moved along the board of its own volition, just as instructed. The Doctor's head whipped back to the game, curls bouncing with the sudden -

"Thank you for watching him. Can't trust him not to move a piece of two when I'm not looking. Jelly baby for your troubles?"

He beamed up at her, a big toothy grin that stretched from ear to ear. -

As the Doctor took his place on the ground again, his eyes ran over the board, noting the location of all the pieces. It appeared as though everything met with his satisfaction, because he made no further comment or move of the pieces.

Turning his attention to the woman whom he entrusted -

- location is less the critical part, but there is a splendid little bakery just around the corner. K-9 is a big fan of their chocolate croissants."

From the ground by the chess board, the robotic dog's ears turn and whir, preceding his own comment.

"ɴᴇɢᴀᴛɪᴠᴇ, ᴍᴀꜱᴛᴇʀ. ɪ ʜᴀᴠᴇ ɴᴏ ᴍᴏᴜᴛʜ. ɪ ᴄᴀɴɴᴏᴛ -

It was a moment before he returned, bringing with him a rather large, rather garishly multi-colored parasol which he quickly installed into the table they were gathered around. Once his hands were empty, he tugged the door to the police box shut with a squeak of the hinges and a click.
