I haven't updated in awhile, but we are doing ok here. Things are less frantic now and now it just feels like the language barrier is our hardest everyday problem. Which is a big problem but it's solvable, unlike this new blemish on my favorite coffee cup. Things like this really throw me sometimes.

I've been buying more random used things lately and I just went to pick up this mirror and the guy had noticed that my WhatsApp pic outs me as a musician (since I'm trying to find musicians here) and he gave me this record as a gift bc he never listens to it. ❤️❤️ Now I gotta get a record player!

I got to go to the feria again with youngest today and it was just so nice, I love it so much. We have been doing really well lately. ❤️ The grief we feel about leaving is real but we are not alone in it. And we're finding joy.

Listening to the MVD TV Ciudad more now that I got an antenna. It's really thoughtful, not scary, they really take time with people. Mostly I can only pick out words here and there that I understand. But it's a *totally* different vibe than US news. 🇺🇾❤️

Nearly filled my music battery this afternoon. I must have played for two hours straight. Nothing hurts either. Only way it could have been better was if it was with my music friends, but at least I got to organize some playlists and such. A rare afternoon when both kiddos are making art together! ☀️

If you're considering leaving your country for UY, I suggest being sure your name and your kids' names are the exact same across birth certificates, including your name on your kids' birth certificates, your passport, legal documents, etc. Middle names included! No variances at all.

These losses are difficult but also we're fine. I'm hoping that going forward with no restrictions, things will be a lot easier for us, but I'll also just lean on my skills in being patient and just keep trying to learn Spanish.

So I keep trying to learn more, make decisions the best I can. It's been good having help navigating it all with @esillecklarue.bsky.social but it's just one of those things we lost, ya know. BMC (in Boston) was great but they also had exceptionally bad communication in one of their departments. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Also I think systems like this are getting a lot of us Americans fleeing the US and just struggling. And so I try to have patience like they have with me and my language barrier. The cost is so much less than in the US too and we have received good care at times.

Further, I don't see the health insurance model in the US as reasonable either, and it certainly will not be getting any better over the next months/years.

Am I saying I feel like we're in the wrong place or we shouldn't have come here? Noooooo. Some people have good experiences with their affiliation to whatever system they chose. We can always try another system but that is hard too and a bit of a risk that it will be the same or worse.

Another disappointing thing in general is basic awareness of neurodivergence. We were happy to see the sunflower lanyards when we first got here (ifkyk) but 1. they are not affiliated with the actual hdsunflower.com/us and 2. they go entirely ignored every time.

So how many cab rides and hours of planning have been put into the pursuit of just getting my own meds?? Who's to say. This is all just an example of many other healthcare goals, as you can imagine there are several others for the kids with as deep of a maze for each.

Removing those restrictions solved most of them. But not all, haha! So I went back to the internal pharmacy that the doctor had told me to go to for my meds (he gave me the address!) and they said since it's a controlled substance, I have to go somewhere else entirely to get it! Lol

I finally go to the physical office and learn they had entered our data all wrong in many ways. He felt bad for everything I was going through and removed all our restrictions. Keep in mind there were many other issues I'm just not mentioning here bc it's too much.

So of course they wouldn't fill it, but when I tried to contact him, I was ignored completely. Weeks went by.

No one besides the internal pharmacy can see your restrictions, it seems. I tried to tell my doctor the prescription he wrote for me wouldn't be filled bc I have a restriction, but he just said if they give you trouble call me! (??)

Literally I've gotten the response from a pharmacist that this prescription is on the wrong color of paper.

I was assuming restrictions would be clearly noted in my health data and doctors would help me navigate getting whatever I needed. That was incorrect. Prescriptions are given to you on actual paper to bring somewhere. There are pharmacies that will and won't fill certain ones.

Once we got affiliated to ours, I was so glad! We had some restrictions placed but there was an expiration date on them, so it wouldn't be forever and it wouldn't prevent us getting care, it would just cost more. (was my understanding.)

No but really. There are many healthcare systems you can affiliate to. You pay a 'mutualista' monthly to belong to that system. My view is, and can only be, from the point of view of one of these systems, WITH the added disadvantage of not having Spanish language skills.

If you're wondering about healthcare here in Uruguay, I think I can speak to that a bit. I think the tldr is, just picture very kind doctors surrounded tightly by a maze that's wide and tall and in the style of 70s brutalism architecture.
