Our 13th event was cold and overcast, but still was filled with enthusiastic participants and volunteers! And a couple 100 finish milestones!

The cold breeze was especially challenging for the volunteers who had to stand still for an hour or more in it!

With the opening of the new Sunset Dunes parkrun, we had by far our smallest turnout ever at event 12, 109 finishers. (The cold wind also likely kept a few people away.) Weirdly, we had no milestones and nobody saying they were from England - both firsts!

It was cold this morning! (Not Canada cold, but for us, really cold!) The best way to stay warm turned out to be to finish a 5K.

A bit of a correction - there is one other parkrun in California on Thanksgiving; the Brea Reservoir parkrun in the LA area.

The sunshine helped the tutus really sparkle at our tenth event! And we had our 2,000th finish!

You don't have to actually run the whole course posing like this.

In spite of the rainy week we've had, it looks like Saturday is going to be perfect for our first ever Tutu Day! (Well, not counting parking issues.) Wear your favorite tutu or borrow one of ours (arrive early for best selection)!

A break in the rainy weather resulted in a record 250 finishers and an amazing number of milestones for our ninth event! (It's fun that next week will be our tenth event, but WAY more fun that it will be Tutu Day!)

As a bonus this Saturday, the park is running their monthly volunteer day in the morning from 9am to noon at the Sail Station (boat dock) parking lot. Please consider staying and helping improve the park! Time is spent pulling invasive plants and picking up trash.

For the end of our first full month of events, here is a general wrap up of a few stats and all of the milestones.

A record turnout for our 6th event, this one with a Halloween theme and picnic! (And new parking procedures, which you all aced big time!)

Please follow these new procedures and pay attention to the volunteers and signs guiding you. This change will feel counterintuitive, but failing to follow it could lead to the suspension of our ability to continue holding this event.

Officially, we are supposed to actually yell “GO!” at 8:00 AM. Due to people arriving late though, we have been starting the briefing at 8:00 or maybe a minute or two later. Which has had the effect of making people feel OK about arriving even later. Our close parking makes arriving late seem fine, but in reality, that parking fills quickly and you then have to park in the overflow lot which, while only a few minutes walk away, still ends up making you even later. Starting this weekend, we are planning to yell “GO!” at 8:00 AM. We will start the briefing at 7:50. The First Timers briefing will be at 7:40. Please try to get there a bit early - you get the best parking, have the best shots at the toilets, and can be ready to head out on the trail at 8:00 sharp. To better match the parkrun experience at other events, we are going to start following this schedule - the main fallout will be that you need to be sure to arrive early, and not a bit after 8:00 as has been happening recently.
