Today marks the day Malcolm X was assassinated and his words about Black women still rings true:

“The most disrespected person in America is the Black woman. The most unprotected person in America is the Black woman.”

Someone has sure already made this observation but the fact they can convert all those empty warehouses into prison camps means they could have converted them into housing, community centers, job training centers or, hell, libraries or schools all along. It’s always a matter of will not resources.

And the folks on campus who will pay for it most will be grad students. Well at least the ones I care most about…those with wealth won’t have any issue and I suppose that’s the end game.

Anyone who is taking the time to follow the current trends in higher ed knows there’s a legit crisis and that THERE IS NO MONEY. Meaning, less new hires, increased workloads for current faculty, less GA funding…

It’s likely that me & my colleagues workloads will change, and the conversations surrounding GA funding are very concerning. I just really don’t think most people went into this understanding the nuances, and further fell for this narrative that our university has all this money laying around.

Really wish I was able to say “I told you so” to every single person that argued there weren’t going to be any major changes given the unionization of faculty on campus.

I get tired of saying it, but I’ll say it again: the nature of oppression in America is that they workshop it first on Black, Latino, Asian & Native people.

Independent journalist Georgia Fort was also arrested by federal agents earlier for reporting on the church protest in Minneapolis. She was live streaming when agents arrived to take her into custody.

Another ended her comments with telling her to "grow some," which also left me hollering.

After mistaking her for a bot, one person apologized and essentially said I thought you were a bot because you're writing was terrible and let me tell you I about died in my chair. Still chuckling at that one.

My favorite genre is colleagues letting folks have it on these professional listservs coming on here talking about "can we just stick to xyz and leave the political stuff out." A couple of people have came at this lady and I am 100% here for all of it.
