New day for #freestober with "Diamond Girl" by Nice and Wild, from 1986 too.
This track quite got the typical freestyle beat structure, but not in its most electro form.
The rhyme placement over the groove is also very cool here.

Digging that constant electro hit hat presence, the short FM bass instrument and the chorded FM trumpet/string, on that slow paced groove, so good.

Composed specifically for a scene of The Goonies movie, the scene was removed from theatrical release, and reintroduced on some later releases (see Wikipedia).
The beat is massively percussive in this one.

This one goes in the Latin side of freestyle with its rhythm and also the piano solo later on.

It maybe got an "Amiga" or "Protracker" mode when replaying .mod files, like XM Play does. ๐
It sounds correct when played on the modules.pl page.
The tempo seems incorrect on that replay, hearing how the beat loop sounds, slightly too fast and looping just before it's retriggered.

Of course her hit is "Let the Music Play" from the same album, but I prefer the darker tone of this one, and the great chorus.

My demoscene friends, there is a crowdfunding campaign that started in France for a upcoming movie named "DEMO", by @alexpilot.bsky.social
The demoscene will be a plot start, with the heroes competing at a party in the 90s (so it'll cover the old/midschool era) :D

So for the first track of #freestober I'll start with proto-freestyle.
In 1982 Freeez(e) released I.O.U., an electro track with elements that would define freestyle later on. It was also produced/mixed by Arthur Baker and Jellybean, important figures in freestyle development.

Yes, that freestyle genre is quite cheesy to some, and lyrics about troubled relationships are certainly kind of cringe.
But the passionate singing, over those syncopated beats, and along various flavours of electro, are the elements I enjoy in this style.
Also I'd pick it over Eurodance any day. ๐
Through October, I'll do #freestober, posting one of my favourite electro/latin/bass freestyle track each day.
The selection will be ordered by year, starting from early 80's, up to post-2000.
It won't be the ultimate best of the genre, just a selection according to my taste and the number of days.
