A still from MESSIAH OF EVIL showing the view through an opaque glass and iron skylight through which scary silhouettes and shadows of figures can be seen, their hands pressed up against the translucent glass.
Yes to all of this + anyone who's a fan of CARNIVAL, Lynch, Romero, and Bergman and hasn't yet seen MESSIAH OF EVIL would be wise to bump it to the top of their list.

Youβre not the Pope of TV, donβt try to dictate your orthodoxy to the rest of us! π

Respectfully, this is not only mindless gatekeeping, itβs factually wrong.
When this was on HBO, before streaming or DVDs, the vast majority of viewers started on an episode OTHER than 101. Thatβs how TV used to work! Your buddy would tell you about a great show and youβd jump in the next week.

Is it better if you know all the layers and history?
Sure. But the point is to find themselves right door for you, which isnβt always the front door.
Get into a great show any way you can, and then go back to the start for the full experience. Especially on great TV that is endlessly rewatchable.
06.10.2025 14:20 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
Nah. Sometimes the right entry point for someone isnβt episodes 1. Most shows take some time to find themselves and their tone.
Someone who watches, say, episodes 301-303 and is hooked might then have the right motivation to go back to 101 and watch the full story.

The Sopranos isnβt really a crime drama. Itβs a family drama tied to a workplace dramady, with occasional brutality.
If youβre curious about The Wire, maybe just try starting with season 4, the one focusing on the school system and that gave us Michael B Jordan.

I wrote about why the regrettable conclusions of Ezra Klein pissed me off so badly in the last couple weeks.

I visited the apartment building ICE raided on Tuesday today. Story to come, but you can walk right in. Half of the apartments have no doors on them. Children's stuff abandoned in some flats. *Citizen* residents told me they were arrested and held for hours in zipties. This is America

While ppl are boycotting Disney a reminder that Sinclair and Nexstar are also the problem. They started this. Canceling Disney subscriptions hurts Disney but does nothing to Sinclair/Nexstar. We also need to boycott companies that advertise on Nexstar and Sinclair stations.
