Many Americans hold contradictory opinions on the same policies Our new poll finds question wording can swing opinion by 20+ points on immigration, the budget, and transgender rights. That's a problem for people who use polls to tell politicians what voters want.

New post!
Many Americans hold contradictory opinions on the same policies. Question wording effects can swing opinions by 20+ points on immigration, the budget, and transgender rights.
That's a problem for people who interpret polls for a living.

Bad Internet Bills All of the bad internet bills. One website.

THREAD: Whenever imperialist governments go to war, they become more authoritarian at home.

That makes censorship bills like KOSA, ID checks, and attacks on Section 230 even more dangerous.

Online protest, documenting war crimes, even news articles could be suppressed.

1908: the Lancet, one of the most respected scientific journals, calls for 18 age limit on reading in bed amidst a moral panic surrounding children becoming "addicted" to novels, which were "designed to keep kids hooked" and destroy their attention/mental health

Fascism is not the product of life being too easy. People do not become fairer or more just in their politics because their lives are hard, or because they live in a state of precarity. Come tf on.

African Philosophy and the Politics of Food Systems This open access book argues food systems need to be questioned on ethical, epistemic grounds and posits African philosophy as valuable source in doing so

Proud that our book β€œAfrican Philosophy and the Politics of Food Systems” is out & Open Access. It’s a collective effort of showing that African philosophy is more than an academic subfield but of central importance for shaping futures on the continent. link.springer.com/book/10.1007...

We've Lost the Spaces That Foster Friendship We keep offering individual fixes for loneliness while ignoring the disappearance of the spaces where adults once built real relationships.

We didn’t suddenly forget how to make friends.
No partner, no app, no self-help hack can replace real, recurring community.
New @PsychToday, building on research from Bound by BDSM, on what we’re missing in the loneliness conversation.

Fascists don’t need us to agree with them. They just need us to believe they can’t be stopped.

Never forget that cynicism can quickly be contorted into complicity.

One reason to talk about the conservatism of the Catholic church beyond the immediate issues with church control of hospitals, universities etc, is that it's pretty commonplace for church ideology to break out of containment. GC ideology originated in Catholic propaganda against trans ppl.
