yeah, apparently it's literacy outrage day. 😅 and don't get me wrong literacy is absolutely at all time low but not for the reasons this thread is trying to invent lol. I am also not a fan of 1st person never liked it in books but to pretend like it's a new generation's thing is silly to me.

first person has always been and will always be more rare, but has been around for a long time. no, it wasn't invented by ao3 or booktok. people in replies and qrts acting like it's end of literacy as we know it are seriously overreacting or haven't read as much of "classic literature" as they think

The Great Gatsby, Lolita, Catcher in the Rye, Clockwork Orange, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, To Kill a Mockingbird, One The Road, Jane Eyre, the damn DIVINE COMEDY! all classics written in first person. and many more. not everything is "literacy crisis". its just a preference of some individuals
