Looks like a fine place to visit next time I have work trip to Brussels ๐ค I wonder if there are local furs there...

06.11.2025 20:23 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0AI will suffer from the same biases and blindspots as humans do. They can only find things they know what they think they look like. And are blind to things they assume to be something else. Allowing AI to classify new unknowns and analyse relative location and temporal evolution is the key. ๐ฆ
06.11.2025 04:02 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0nothing obvious to protect. And certainly not as single isolated guns. So the analysts were told to start looking for circles where there shouldn't be ones. And sure enough they started finding dozens of such sites all along the channel coast. A whole new radar net was revealed.
06.11.2025 04:02 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Finally they managed to pinpoint a suspect location and photograph it. From the air it looked like just another anti-aircraft gun emplacement. A small circle isolated in a field next to the coastline. But something was off. The Germans didn't build emplacements in such places, where there was...
06.11.2025 04:02 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Related location is also of interest. Finding features in places they shouldn't be, especially new ones.
In WWII at the dawn of the introduction of Navigation Warfare and radar, R.V. Jones was looking for radar sites. But no one at the aerial photographic service knew what they were looking for...
It found me several hundred UFOs but that was to be expected around edf ๐ค
05.11.2025 21:13 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Another 10 years and LEO direct-to-cell will start taking over even terrestrial networks. Having any kind of physical infra is just too expensive and the requirement for more transfer capacity keeps growing. Much easier to set up more wireless than keep digging new cables.
02.11.2025 20:35 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0As for being a sign of war, lets put GNSS jamming in context: it is primarily used defensively as force protection and its effects can be felt hundreds of kilometers from its intended area of use. For example the Baltic region has experienced jamming for two years now relates to war in Ukraine.
02.11.2025 06:24 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The interference was likely caused by a military exercise with testing of jammers, typically as part of larger counter drone systems. GPS is only one of the frequencies they jam.
Space weather event is coincidental since it would not cause such localized effects.
A black and white bovine fursuiter having his arms around a blue/white/rainbow-coloured fox.
It's the first day of Moovember!
So let's have a colourful photo from the summer of me and the lovely @tinkafur.bsky.social!

26.09.2025 03:37 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Clearly the man should revisit antenna theory. For most antennas and masts severing the connection to the ground plane will increase their resonant frequency as the ground no longer acts as part of the antenna (except maybe via capacitive coupling) ๐ค
21.09.2025 03:04 โ ๐ 5 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Sure it would be trivial to disguise and hide EW antennas if they wanted to. But Russians usually don't bother. They are known to just strap on additional EW systems on their deck for all to see. I'd look for high res photos of all the decks as well ๐ซก
12.09.2025 02:57 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Those are normal maritime navigation, communication and satcom antennas. I see no EW or suspicious looking antennas. Sorry. I work with naval radio antennas every day. I understand they might all look similar to non-experts.
12.09.2025 02:43 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0This is an interesting Human Factors problem: humans are very good/too good to always explain things and find plausably sounding stories to everything. It is tempting to jump to conclusion that such artifacts must be due to X. Only analytical comparison and elimination can check such hypothesis.
10.09.2025 21:37 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Unfortunately this is all one can say about such artifacts on rain weather images. Without knowing exactly the type or radar, its scan pattern, timing, processing, filtering and image generation criteria one can only speculate the chain of causes.
10.09.2025 21:37 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Known RF interference sources are other strong radars. These are usually filtered out but sometimes they get through to the final image.
Sector artifacts point to an event at one point of time or angle.
Circular ones point to there being a difference in the effects due to a step in scan range.
So when you see radial or sector patterns on radar images, one cannot directly relate them to traditional scope display echos. They are most often technical glitches or failures in the processing and filtering.
10.09.2025 21:37 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0After the scan there is extensive post processing and filtering to try to form an an informative precipitation intensity image, without false postives such as from birds or insects or other interference.
