Withdrawal from the Race - January 25, 2026
After deep reflection and conversations with my family, my team, and trusted community partners, I have decided to withdraw from the race for Congress in California’s 5th District.
I am profoundly grateful to every person who gathered signatures, made calls, hosted meet‑and‑greets, donated, or simply shared encouragement. My supporters included many prominent local Democrats who are, and continue to be, deeply engaged with their communities. Building this campaign has reinforced what I already believed: the people of CA‑05 care deeply about their neighbors, their communities, and the future of our democracy.
I entered this race aligned with the values many of us organize around: defending democracy, protecting civil rights, and holding power accountable. But I also need to be candid about what it takes to run a congressional campaign. In this cycle, there has not been sufficient campaign infrastructure for Indivisible‑aligned candidates to build the kind of districtwide operation required at this level, especially in a large rural district like ours.
I remain proud of the movement we are part of, and I am not stepping away from the work. I will continue working locally, supporting candidates who can govern with integrity, and advocating for stronger, earlier, and more equitable support for grassroots and Indivisible‑aligned candidates in future cycles.
Thank you for trusting me with your time, your hopes, and your support.
With gratitude and resolve,
-- Kate Sills

Mary Elliott-Klemm, founder of Trails Now, enabling the creation of the El Dorado Trail, proudly endorses Kate Sills for Congress 5th District
Proud to be endorsed by Mary Elliott-Klemm, founder of Trails Now / Friends of the El Dorado Trail!
She says, "Kate Sills listens and sees everyone as a concerned citizen, uniting us with the values that bring us together in community. What a contrast to Tom McClintock, who practices divisive politics, branding those he disagrees with as 'socialists.'
Kate speaks out frankly, honestly and fearlessly. Tom repeats the Trump party line.
It is personal for her, with a brother in the military, and she cares.
Kate Sills is genuine. She is honest. She is a fighter.
She is exactly the candidate that we need to represent us.
I proudly endorse Kate Sills for Congress."

"Conventional theory regarding rural communities in the Sierra Nevada foothills have left us only 2 options: 1) Retain our natural splendor and be economically bereft or 2) Be wealthy via excessive resource extraction while becoming ugly in the process. Why don't we try something new?"

BREAKING: ICE shot and killed a woman in Minneapolis, and the initial reports are horrifying.
This is not the first time Trump’s ICE has shot at civilians. We need ICE out of our cities and communities. www.mprnews.org/story/2026/0...

This video is absolutely horrific. ICE shot and killed a woman in her car as she was attempting to drive away.
The violence and aggression must stop. Get ICE out of our cities.

Today a masked ICE agent in Minneapolis killed a legal observer.
The woman, a U.S. Citizen, was shot through the windshield of her vehicle. As per video and witnesses, there appears to be no self-defense justification.
This agent must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

The January 6th insurrection was a direct assault on our democracy. Now, five years later, Donald Trump has only been emboldened.

As I'm writing this just after midnight, the United States has confirmed that we were responsible for an attack tonight on Caracas, Venezuela. This is an illegal war and a betrayal of our service members.
I'm running for Congress because my little brother is in the Navy. We must impeach Trump now.

Richard Miles, Past Chair, Amador County Democratic Central Committee, proudly endorses Kate Sills for Congress CA-05.
As the most recent past Chair of the Amador County Democratic Central Committee, I am proud to endorse Kate Sills as the Democratic Party candidate for Congress in California’s 5th District.
At this moment in the life of our district—we don’t need a candidate who trims their sails to chase some imagined political middle. We need someone with courage, integrity, and a strong backbone. Someone who knows who they are, what they stand for, and who they are willing to fight for. I believe Kate Sills is that person.
CA-5 is a proud rural district. We care deeply about our friends and neighbors, about the men and women who have served our country in uniform, and about preserving a way of life rooted in mutual respect, independence, and community. Those values don’t come from poll-tested talking points. They come from lived experience and from the courage to stand up—even when it’s hard—for what truly matters.
Kate Sills brings that courage. She is running to serve, to listen, and to fight—especially for people who too often feel overlooked or written off. She understands that real representation means showing up, not just during election season, but every day.
Just as importantly, Kate has the ability to energize our entire electorate. If we are going to win we need a candidate who can inspire young people, connect authentically with Latino voters, and earn the trust of independents, while still standing firmly with Democratic values. Kate can do that. She doesn’t ask people to shrink their hopes; she asks them to believe that their participation matters.
This race is not about cautious repositioning, and it is definitely winnable in this cycle with the right candidate. It’s about whether we choose fear or courage, convenience or conviction. I believe Kate Sills has the strength, heart, and integrity to meet this moment—and go on to win in November.
That is why I am proud to endorse Kate Sills for Congress, and why I urge others to stand with her.
Respectfully,
Richard Mi…
