I always knew this day would come, but never this soon. Hovering above the scene, yet at the same time seeing myself at the center of frantic activity below. How can this be? Then they stop.
“I’m calling it, 09:18.”
Warm brilliant light embraces me. Goodbye? Is this goodbye, or a new beginning?
Really going to miss it, too! It was such a special place, sharing writing, making new friends and reading everyone’s entries. A chance for us to all grow and learn together.
My writing goal is to stop just thinking about writing, talking about writing, getting lost in research, playing at writing, and get real. Stop being such a coward and just do it. Make new habits, break bad old ones and commit to writing everyday. Make this the year I finally finish my novel!
Congratulations, Camille!
Congratulations to you both!
Congrats all!
Her fingers drifted across the worn piano keys, the familiar chords soaring, sweetly filling the air.
“Oh holy night, the stars were brightly shining..”
The glittering tree, the heady scent of pine, and Max, her Max, smiling. His hand outstretched to her.
The stunned aides, how?
An empty stare.
Congratulations!
Congratulations!
Congrats all!
Sunlight streamed in through the open patio door, a warm breeze carrying the heavy scent of roses.
Ours, thought Jen, she still had to pinch herself to believe it was real. They bought a house! This house!
The door suddenly slammed shut with a sharp bang, red letters dripping down it, “U r dead!”
Congrats to you both!
Congratulations!
Congrats all!
The worn shell held her secret. Once, just once, she’d been free.
Dizzying stars overhead, crashing waves. Wrapped in the moment and a stranger’s arms. His kiss salty on her lips, his hardness against her. She’d never experienced it before or since.
“Em!”
The spell broken, she hid the shell away.
Congratulations to you both!
Congratulations!
Congrats all!
There it was. Small, dusty, slightly askew in a forgotten local museum in a forgotten village. Hand trembling, he reached out and ran a finger over the dull colours. Sliding it from the wall, he tucked it beneath his coat.
Smiling, he dropped a few coins in the box and walked out into the daylight.
Congratulations to you both!
Congrats all!
Congratulations!
Jas pulled the front door open and stared into the eyes of his eighteen year old self. Looking past him he saw the old jacked-up black Nova parked at the curb. This can’t be…
“Hey man, you ok? You don’t look so good.”
His gaze shifted back to the teen.
“I came about the rims you advertised.”
Congratulations to you both!
Congrats all!
Congratulations!
“What’s this?”
Dry soil spilled across the floor as she pulled the dead ficus from its pot. A plastic bag was shoved in the bottom.
Passports, driving licenses, all with different names. All with their mother’s face.
“I don’t understand, she was just Mom.”
"What is this?" she mumbled, "Who was she?"
Frozen, not daring to open her eyes she felt the presence.
“Say the right words,” mocked the whispered voice.
It’s not real, not real.
A low chuckle, “Say the right words.”
Sharp pain as her hair was yanked. The room filled with a beating of frenzied wings, walls vibrating.
“Say the right words!!”
Congratulations!
Congrats all!
