04.03.2026 16:12 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Somebody I knew a little 20 years ago when our work crowds overlapped in Hartford writes a massively solipsistic newsletter now and sometimes sends 2 or 3 missives a day. I've unsubscribed, yet my spam folder is full of his emails - and now he's charging for full access! Pure chutzpah
04.03.2026 00:01 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The recording could have stopped after the first seven words
03.03.2026 22:09 β π 6 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Not a huge Margo Price fan, but that's a good booking for this year's Rhythm & Roots Festival in Rhode Island. Marty Stuart, Devil Makes Three and St. Paul & the Broken Bones are among the other headliners
03.03.2026 20:30 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yes, I'm sure the scientific method will have much to reveal about Morrissey. I myself have several testable hypotheses
03.03.2026 20:07 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0You subjective critics are always throwing your opinions around!
03.03.2026 20:01 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Makes you wonder whether Townes was confused (or altered) about the correct Guy Clark album title, or whether the publication messed it up
03.03.2026 19:06 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Having known a few opinion section editors, my guess is more often ignorance than malice. Or a failure to anticipate consequences. Either way, though, you're right about harm existing regardless
02.03.2026 15:57 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I wonder to what extent that speaks to the blind spots/failures of imagination of the people curating the range of opinions. One doesn't tend to rise as high as the masthead of a publication like the NYT by being bold and principled
02.03.2026 15:50 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Fair point. If it were up to me, I'd do away with editorial/op-ed pages altogether. They undermine the news operation, and these days, it's not like there's a shortage of places for dopes to express half-assed opinions.

You might say it finished ... prematurely?
I'll show myself out
Might as well slap a disclaimer on there: "THESE ARE OPINIONS. They do not represent the newspaper's official position. Some of them are by idiots. Use your judgment."
02.03.2026 14:03 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0The dream!
02.03.2026 13:55 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Concerns about platforming, say, Tom Cotton are legit, but her replies speak volumes about the general (mis)understanding of what an op-ed page is. It's been true for as long as I've been writing for newspapers that they do a bad job explaining what an op-ed (and editorial) page is supposed to do!
02.03.2026 13:55 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Even that clip is nonsensical. "This is not Iraq. This is not endless. I was there for both." Is his speechwriter George T. Stagg?
02.03.2026 13:43 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0"Trust me, this forever war is different. And that's not just the whiskey talking"
02.03.2026 13:38 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Completely ferocious live. Unbelievably intense
02.03.2026 13:31 β π 3 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Very sorry to report that dog park dad-bros are something that exists. Some of them wear weighted vests to really take that walk to the next level
28.02.2026 20:06 β π 8 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0He still doesn't understand (or care) that those Hundreds of Billions of Dollars came from American consumers

We know the details behind this story, and let me tell you, the insanity described by the able @erdanton.bsky.social goes waaaaay deep.

Here it is: the weirdest story I've ever reported, with a bonus thread of weird stuff I didn't have room to include. In print Sunday in the Boston Globe.

Willie Nelson + Emmylou Harris is never anything short of spellbinding. I wish they'd recorded 30 albums together

So, NC Unlucky Shots almost certainly don't exist. Songs on their Bandcamp? Probably AI, say two different music producers.
Who's behind all this? Draw your own conclusions, but there seems to be a trail of crumbs
In email correspondence Dec. 1, NC asks MA whether they were the same group that had played with NC band at the non-existent 2013 show - weird thing to ask for a couple reasons, especially if the guy you're thinking of had just created your Bandcamp page two weeks ago
27.02.2026 12:34 β π 4 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0The CA Lucky Shots guy claims the NC group contacted him about the name mixup, and that he provided "informal technical assistance" to get them on Bandcamp and socials. That would have been Nov. 19 or earlier - before MA band had changed their name
27.02.2026 12:34 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0In 2013, the Greensboro venue had a different show booked that night, according to one of the acts that played. The fake-gig poster lists a three-band lineup that includes ... the CA Lucky Shots, who added the poster to their website after Nov. 23. Looks a lot like retconning a back story

NC Unlucky Shots' IG page has 2 posters advertising gigs that never happened, one in '24 in Asheville and one in '13 in Greensboro. The club in Ashville had a 2-day festival taking place instead. The Unlucky Shots didn't perform, the promoter told me.
