“This November, learn how to prepare yourself and your family for a climate disaster. What should be in an emergency kit? How can a kit help your family in an emergency? Join the Manitoba Eco-Network and the Canadian Red Cross for a 1-hour public ‘Be-Ready’ session to learn more! Tuesday Nov 4th (5pm to 6pm), Orioles Community Centre. 448 Burnell St, Winnipeg MB. Snacks will be provided. Wheelchair accessible venue. Participants who require ASL interpretation services should notify Eco-Network staff via email at info@mbeconetwork.org by Thursday, October 30th.”

During the committee hearing on October 8th, the Manitoba Eco-Network was able to advocate for this bill alongside our community members, and our voices were heard - Section 4(2) was removed, and Bill 23 is now set to be established in Manitoba!

This morning, Deep Sky—a Montreal-based direct air capture (DAC) start-up founded by executives of the travel app Hopper and the former CFO of Airbnb—announced that it will build a major DAC facility in southwestern Manitoba.

The announcement of this unproven and risky technology which serves to delay the transition off of fossil fuels is HIGHLY concerning, particularly as it comes just three days after the provincial Path to Net Zero which contained some promising pledges for proven solutions to cut emissions.
