06.08.2025 15:37 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0According to my friend: Godzilla symbolizes nuclear destruction, and the idea that you fight destruction with something bigger and more destructive is a very Western one. Peace combats destruction. Mothra represents peace and the natural world, and thus the capacity to heal from nuclear devastation.

Donโt pay the proposed cost if you donโt want to or canโt. I get that. Itโs hard out here for everyone. That is very true.
But it is also true that other people are not obligated to absorb the costs of entertaining you. Please engage in some perspective-taking. Itโll make your life much easier.
6/6
All of that, and youโre easily below the proposed minimum wage that everyone knows was proposed so long ago that even if it passed, it would no longer be adequate. Even moreso if itโs an in-person game and all these assets need to be physical.
$20 a session is a STEAL.
5/6
Except that doesnโt factor in the resources a DM needs. Books, for one. And any pro DM running more than maybe two games is gonna need to pay for a VTT subscription. Plus the upfront cost of a computer that can handle running that VTT along with a video chat and some sort of music streaming.
4/6
Because that doesnโt factor in prep time. I find that most good DMs who I talk to can get themselves to a point where an hour of game time equals about an hour of prep time. Meaning that 3 hours of labor is actually six.
So now we are down to barely over $15 an hour.
3/6
Letโs break this down. Say you are going to run a game for 5 players, and each session is going to lastโฆletโs be conservative and call it three hours. At $20 a head, thatโs gonna land you at $100 for three hours of labor. So just over $33 an hour.
That does sound high, right?
Think harder.
2/6
It blows my mind that something I hear so consistently in debates around professional DM work is โPaid DMing is fine, but asking for more than $20 a head per game is ridiculous!โ
Doโฆdo yโall just not understand math?

In my overall quest to increase visibility for my art, I did something yesterday that I havenโt done in a long time.
I thought about Tumblr.
Still have no idea if I think making an art Tumblr is worth it. But I did find this on my old Tumblr account.
I still think this is quite accurate.
2024 was a MAJOR object lesson in this, let me tell you.
08.01.2025 13:22 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0An aged elven warrior stands in a defiant battle posture. His spear is held in a low guard, and his expression warns his unseen foe not to step closer. His cloak billows in the wind, as his name appears dramatically in the lightning arcing past him.
Today on my art page Iโm talking about the second of my three Fayhaven LARP pieces! Give it a look and a like if you are so inclined!

An entire fantasy family sits on a picnic blanket in the sun. A young Halfling woman kneels on her human uncleโs chest, having just defeated him in a ball game. Two of her sisters sit nearby sharing tea. The third sister looks annoyed as she patches up an injury on her Dwarf boyfriend, while her boyfriendโs Dwarf cousin stands to the side holding her infant son.
Today on my art page Iโm talking about the first of three pieces I recently did for some fellow players at Fayhaven LARP! Give it a look and a like if you are so inclined!

Iโd never thought about it, but they never produce smoke or muzzle flashes, so the propulsion source canโt be black powder or something similar. So I wonderedโฆwhat is it?
Well, according to Wookiepedia, itโs a device called a โmagnetic pulse accelerator.โ

THEYโRE USING FUCKING RAILGUNS.

I just learned something wild about a piece of Star Wars tech.
This is a cycler rifle, most often seen in the hands of the Tusken Raiders. They are fairly unique in Star Wars in that, unlike most blasters, they fire bullets rather than plasma bolts.
But thatโs not the wild part.

Still updating my page. Today weโve got a rare monster commission I did of a well-known D&D creature.

Starting to beef up my art profile again. Today Iโm talking about armor design. Would love it if yโall gave it a look and maybe a share if youโre so inclined.

Humanity canโt make our brains work a certain way. But we CAN make our environment better for a wider spectrum of brains. When context is everything, we need to dedicate everything to context.
If you care? Do the work.
(12/12)
But not all of us like talking about it. And in many cases, not all of us feel safe to do so. In which case, do your research. Learn the generalities and try to keep them in mind. You will never know a personโs whole story. But starting with compassion helps make up for that a lot.
(11/12)
Second, if youโre a person who cares about this, work to understand the conditions and needs of your neuroatypical peers. That might be as simple as asking. Plenty of us love to talk about our lived experiences and help people to understand how our minds work, and what accommodations help.
(10/12)
One of my autistic friends struggles a lot with social awareness, but has an incredible mind for numbers and practical, concrete thinking. He now works as an engineer where he doesnโt have to socialize much, and is so good at his job that he can provide for his whole family all on his own.
(9/12)
So what does one do about this? Well, a few things.
First, if you are a neurodivergent person, one of the kindest things you can do for yourself is find an environment where your traits allow you to be successful.
(8/12)
So, when we say โneurotypical,โ what we ultimately mean is โideally mentally adapted to the current world.โ Much of said world is quite hostile to autistic people, or others with sensory issues. Our approach to education, at least in the US, is hostile to people with ADHD. The list goes on.
(7/12)
Because hereโs the thing: Our brainโs capacity to adapt doesnโt actually care about our happiness. It cares about our survival. On an instinctual level, our brains donโt really understand the modern world. They understand โsurvive long enough to pass on the genes.โ Thatโs it.
(6/12)
When you are in a violent or otherwise dangerous situation for an extended period, PTSDโs reflexive hypervigilance genuinely can make the difference between survival and death.
The moment youโre out of that situation, of course, PTSD serves no purpose. But good luck telling your brain that.
(5/12)
In mental health and neurodivergence, this translates to context. Letโs look at PTSD as an example. The brain doesnโt develop PTSD symptoms for no reason. It does so as a survival response.
(4/12)
Take the Great White shark, for example. The Great White is an apex predator. Very few things fuck with it, itโs incredibly efficient at what it does. It is HIGHLY adept at the task of being a predatory fish.
But that wonโt save it if it finds itself on a mountain peak.
(3/12)
Evolution and adaptation are basically all about traits. A species develops this or that trait because it helps said species to better survive in its current environment. Barring certain lethal mutations, โgood traitsโ and โbad traitsโ donโt really exist. Itโs all about the environment.
