And when PCs were included in the decoder?
No difference in BMI task performance- suggesting flexibility and integration of PCs in cerebellar BMI control.

For #Cerebellum aficionados: yes, we looked at #PurkinjeCells (PCs).
Indirect PCs showed learning-related modulation, and interaction timescales with decoder units and M1 matched other cerebellar units.

We then asked: what predicts cerebellar BMI activity?
Turns out, local cerebellar and motor cortical indirect activity predicted direct decoder activity across time lags- altered post-stroke, hinting at network-level compensation.

Cerebellar βdirectβ decoder units showed strong task-related modulation.
With learning, indirect cerebellar units also became task-modulated- pointing to distributed #plasticity across the circuit.

Crucially, cerebellar BMI control remained feasible even when upper-limb impairments persisted post-#stroke - highlighting its translational potential for #neurorehab and #neuroprosthetics. π‘

We first compared cerebellar #BMI control with #MotorCortex (M1)-driven BMI.
Performance was on par.
And, BMI control from the cerebellum was equally effective in healthy vs. stroke brains.
