Is it just the stylist I see or is it actually impossible to dye hair dark brown? Do I really have to choose between light brown and black?? I don't get it???

and honestly, the obsession over β€œwe should have said more about biden being old” starts to grate when the currently serving president is very obviously impaired by age and cognitive decline, to crickets from the press

This whole fiasco just shows how Trump and DOGE did absolutely 0 research before doing anything. Anyone would have told you that the NWS had ALOT of people near retirement age. Offering early retirement was always going to hit NWS very hard.

I guess DOGE's AI didn't tell them that.

The fact that my parents just didn't bother to save almost anything for their retirement feels like a ticking time bomb that will eventually ruin my life & my own ability to save for my retirement. :)

One thing I cannot wrap my brain around about suburban culture is why everyone has outside lights on 24/7/365. What is the purpose of that? It's terrible for migrating birds & insects but besides, don't they enjoy the night being dark? I had to go out & buy black out curtains because of that.

A couple of yellow-bellied sapsuckers are doing what they do in a tree. The first one gasps and says: "Leaves! Finally! Spring is here! Relief from the misery at last!" The second one goes "Oh, this winter wasn't so bad, in fact, the daily highs were well above average–" but this statement gets interrupted by the thoughts of the first bird thinking "I could kill him. No one would have to know."

I had a job where I had to go to many different kinds of workplaces all the time. Some of those workplaces were factories. I've never met a more depressed workforce than the people who worked in factories, of various kinds. Even the slaughterhouse people were happier.

β€œSlow Pay, Low Pay or No Pay” Blue Cross authorized mastectomies and breast reconstructions for women with cancer but refused to pay the full doctors’ bills. A jury called it fraud and awarded the practice $421 million.

Last fall, Blue Cross got hit with a $421 million verdict after jurors found it defrauded doctors. It was one of the biggest verdicts ever outside a class action - and it revealed the inner workings of how insurers block payments. My latest. www.propublica.org/article/blue...

This is another reason why I don't call myself an "environmentalist." That has become a political term & I don't like that. I also don't care for the fact that so many who dabble in pseudoscience identify w/the term. I prefer "conservationist." It sounds less political & more evidence-based to me.

Honey is literally sugar. Sugar is sugar to your body, no matter the source. The idea that it helps w/allergies is a myth. People are allergic to wind-pollinated plant pollen, which is not found in honey. It's not like an allergy shot since it doesn't contain the pollen that ppl are allergic to.

I'm convinced atp that some people who consider themselves environmentalists have formed a cult-like thing around honey & honey bees. They don't listen to evidence that honey bees are harmful in the US. They're often convinced honey has natural healing powers too. Troubling. #conservation #woo

I am stating my opinions very respectfully. I would recommend using a website where you can have a private profile if you don't like people replying to you. I have done nothing but be cordial to everyone here.

Anyway, my solutions are stop raising invasive species and plant native plants instead.

12.04.2025 19:40 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

I don't go for this "naturalized" stuff when it's a species causing problems in our ecosystem. They actively contribute to the decline of actual native pollinators which actually take part in our food webs, unlike honey bees.

12.04.2025 19:09 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

They're still attacking our native bees & harming our ecosystems. It doesn't matter how long they've been here. Posting about them dieing as if it's an environmental problem is counter-productive to conservation efforts.

12.04.2025 19:09 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Respectfully, we will be completely fine without European honey bees. They are an invasive species who do nothing to support our ecosystems in North America. In fact, they tend to interfere with our native bees who are a critical part of our ecosystems. Honey bees are agriculture, not wildlife.

Cells are swapping their mitochondria. What does this mean for our health? Researchers are studying why the energy factories are moving between cells and whether the process can be harnessed to treat cancer and other diseases.

Wow! Mitochondria can actually be transferred to other cells if needed through nanotubes, in extracellular bubble-shaped vesicles, or by free floating through the blood. buff.ly/33kcDdS

Donating mitochondria to another cell may help to repair damaged cells or support immune function.

sprawl is an unmitigated environmental, social, and economic disaster

it is no longer affordable (especially when you add in transportation and time)

sprawl is driving climate change. literally.

and it is a ponzi scheme - unable to fund maintenance and replacement costs

The thing is I don't think a ton of these people think they believe in conspiracy theories. I mean I think a lot of people who "believe in science" are falling for conspiracy theories that aren't supported by science & they don't realize that.
