Meet three scientists who said no to Epstein
The warning signs included a web search, a mother’s doubts, and inklings of a “sexist attitude”
Many of the scientists Jeffrey Epstein courted were already well-established and well-funded. So why didn’t they all just say no? Science talked with three who did just that.
Here’s how Epstein approached them, and why they refused to have anything to do with him. ⬇️ https://scim.ag/40qbXnv

BLM Announces Plan to Fell Oregon's Last Great Forests
One billion board feet per year... 30 days to make your voice heard.
You only have a short time to comment. They are trying to destroy our forests to enrich a few logging company executives and the politicians they’ve paid off.

Last night at the #DataCenters meeting in Claremore, Darren Blanchard, who has attended most of these meetings around NE Oklahoma & has some pretty impressive FOIA/ORA skills, was arrested after going over his 3 min. allotted speaking time. First arrest I've seen at one of these.
in america, if you go over your 3 minute allotment to speak, men with guns come to take you away.

Kids are notoriously germy, so pediatricians come face to face with a slew of diverse diseases every single day--call it an occupational hazard. It turns out all that exposure makes the docs pump out some powerful antibodies, which might make good new medicines for pesky viruses 🧪💊 my story:

To me the chatbots pose zero interesting questions about the ‘nature of selfhood’ but dozens about the nature of manipulation. Here the Claude team pretends they are programming the robot for ethical responses but they land on one that is false and disingenuous.

A bumblebee looking straight at the camera, standing on a leaf with bright light coming from behind. The hair around the head is yellow and black.
In this picture, the bumblebee has turned to the side, giving us a better full view of the largest pair of eyes.
I saw my first bumblebee of the year on the farm today. Even with a relatively warm day, they were understandably sluggish. There are a few small flowers about, so I hope they can find something to eat.
Those eyes. That hair. Iconic.

For people who don't follow the FDA closely: this is insane. Like my jaw hit the floor when I saw this. The FDA is flat out refusing to even consider Moderna's application for a new flu vaccine? The federal health apparatus is fully compromised by anti-vax conspiracy. THIS IS NUTS! BAD

I couldn't string sentences together yesterday, Maybe that's a sign that I shouldn't have been spared when all my fantastic colleagues who unfairly lost their jobs pushed through their grief to write beautiful notes about their careers and the situation at The Washington Post.
The health team lost 8 out of 13 reporters yesterday despite health listed as part of The Post's new pared down focus. Just six months after becoming an editor and having the honor to lead an all-star team covering federal health agencies and public health, I have to go back to reporting because there are barely any health reporters left to edit.
I'll say more about the reporters we lost later today, but as a team, we did everything we were supposed to do under the vision for The Post to be a digital innovator that breaks news, offers hard-hitting accountability and directly address reader concerns. We landed exclusives on the CDC director's firing, plans to overhaul the childhood vaccine schedule, projections for steep ACA marketplace rate increases and more. We avoided dutiful iterative stories and covered storylines such as the expiration of enhanced ACA premiums with smart targeted angles that were widely read. We broke the mold of a traditional newspaper with clever formats including a pop-up newsletter and live chats to help readers navigate new restrictions on coronavirus vaccines, a quiz to understand new dietary guidelines and vertical videos to showcase reporter expertise.
The Metro section where I started my career (and offers a clear reason for millions of potential subscribers to pay for us instead of or in addition to other national outlets!) is hollowed out. Reporters around the world wiped out after the owner set a vision for international relevance. A sports department home to journalistic legends shuttered. And so much more bleeding across the entire newsroom.
The Washington Post gutted the health team which I helped to lead despite our stories being among the most widely read, impactful and adept at reaching new audiences.
