"why aren't young people having kids"
oh sure, love, I'll just stack one under the sink, shall I? it can live off the soap flakes.
nothing like finding an old Barratt TV ad from 1976 advertising a new-build rowhouse for a mortgage of £14.00 a week.
that's £60.67 per month.
adjusted for inflation in 2026, it's a house. for a £412pcm mortgage. a house.
A HOUSE.
A BLOODY HOUSE.

It applies only to more than two or something. I'm not sure the exact rules.

Yesterday I scored my first competitive goal for my football club, won a trophy, and was presented with a winners medal at the Nottingham Forest ground
Turns out trans people are alright at this football thing, who knew?

Yup! It's to protect "family dwellings" but in practice it (further) limits housing supply.

I get the idea of cultured "udders" producing milk without any need for an actual cow conjures up unpleasant images, but if that's what you're worried about, then I assure you the present day meat and dairy industries have an entire buffet of horrors that are far, far worse.
And I'm not even vegan.
and when it comes to the animal industry, I'm generally OK with innovations - "unnatural" as they may be - that do away with things like gas chambers for baby goats (because the billies are worthless in the milk industry) and chick shredders (because roosters don't lay eggs)

this is not aimed at anyone specific, but I'm really not here for the "it's unnatural!" argument against engineered milk and other animal substitutes, or practices like genetically engineered chickens that produce 99% female eggs.
the modern food industry is an *industry* - cute farm images are PR.

01.03.2026 08:34 — 👍 5 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0A large chunk of the housing crisis in NL is due to lack of new construction, yes. Another chunk is more people living alone. Under these circumstances, legalizing (and regulating) house-sharing makes sense.

At the moment, "family homes" are require a permit to have more than two adults living in them (exception for adult children).
Does this *stop* house sharing? Nope! It means it's in an unregulated grey area where you pay €1200pm for a room for three month periods with no contract and no protection.
actually breaking with my progressive buddies on this one and saying that allowing house shares in Amsterdam is a good idea, actually

"why does our cargo bike keep stalling"
hmm well. maybe the whole part where you're trying to turn a 622mm rim with a 60mm tyre on it with a motor itself geared far too high. maybe it's that.
