I've been using this for a few years to generate alerts when a switch stack member goes down. Is there a better way to see when a switch stack member goes down?

The default spanning-tree pathcost method is short for the Cisco CML 2.8 IOS L2 image, which is 17.15.1.
The default pathcost method changed to long for Cisco 9300s with 17.5.x and Cisco 9500s with some 16.x version.
CML 2.8 has IOL 17.15.1 on the refplat.iso
