Stop glamorizing the immortal older man who stalks the insecure lead until she gives in. Stop pairing the strong female protagonist with the murderous friend bc somehow queer means toxic. In a world that idolizes toxicity, joy and kindness are resistance. And, trust me, it makes a better story.

Either way, the cruel and malignant forces that harm others in any way are not the stuff of romance.

Healthy relationships are romantic. They are not perfect, are absent cruelty, and, in their quest for mutual benefit, find passion and compassion. Write me that. Teach our children that.

Abuse is not romantic.
Trauma is not romantic.
Rape is not romantic.

What’s more tragic is that the original novel, arguably a gothic horror, sought to interrogate the systems that have now bastardized it. We are going backwards, it seems. Maybe Bronte was so ahead of her time, she superseded us.

All of the hubbub and criticism of “Wuthering Heights,” which, tbh, really should have been subtitled “A Fan-fiction,” demonstrates why it is so important to interrogate internalized oppression and call out writers who perpetuate harmful hegemonies. I say it about certain books and I say it again:

Oh, thank you! I’m working on getting my first memoir out, so this one would have the same cast of characters, such as family and friends. It would be more a collection of stories/essays than a cohesive narrative like the first one.

Oh yes, it bumped me. Fortunately, I made myself bigger by floating up. It swam way and my father said it was a shark. It was a great white that was way north bc of warmer water. They closed the beaches after that for a few days.

My father gazed out over the water, his eyes narrowing.
“That was a shark.”
“Ha ha, funny funny,” I said, going back to floating around.
“No, I’m serious. That was a shark.”

Malinin and the team are amazing! Malinin and Chock/Bates have incredibly demanding schedules. He measured what he could give, said it was only fifty percent, and still got second. Glenn fought through her routine despite threats against her. Enough drama. They deserve better from the reporting.

I didn’t know then, in the way that I didn’t know anything related to social norms, that approaching your advisor with the faux confidence of an ingenue was odd.
