THUNDERCRACK (1975) is not Midnight Movie #10 but itโs campy, sexy and hysterical.
24.07.2025 04:16 โ ๐ 5 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER (2001) is not Midnight Movie #9 but itโs just as surgical and niche in its spoofing.
24.07.2025 04:15 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0THE PHANTOM MENACE (1999) is not Midnight Movie #8 but it is a prequel set many years before its first iteration. It also drops you into a wildly dense universe of factions and freaksโฆ.
24.07.2025 04:15 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0NOTHING BUT TROUBLE (1991) is not Midnight Movie #7 but itโs the most abject and hilarious exercise in poor taste since PINK FLAMINGOS- wait maybe I should have used that filmโฆ.
24.07.2025 04:14 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0GOD TOLD ME TOO (1976) is not Midnight Movie #6 but itโs as profane and comes from the co-creator of one of the most notorious exploitation films in recent memory.
24.07.2025 04:13 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0DELICATESSEN (1991) is not Midnight Movie #5 but itโs similarly darkly whimsical. And an overdue feature debut.
24.07.2025 04:13 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0HOT FUZZ (2007) is not Midnight Movie #4 but this director does conduct bloody bedlam in a small town.
24.07.2025 04:12 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0MY FATHER IS A HERO (1995) is not Midnight Movie # 3 but it kicks as much ass.
24.07.2025 04:12 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0POSSESSION (1981) is not Midnight Movie #2 but both feature relationships that will chill you to the bone.

05.04.2025 03:29 โ ๐ 14 ๐ 4 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Pinch me. Joe Bob Briggs did a parody of In A Violent Nature to promote its airing on The Last Drive-In. This feels like the contemporary equivalent (for a horror filmmaker) of getting a MAD Magazine coverโฆ

26.03.2025 14:51 โ ๐ 7 ๐ 3 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0screenshot of text 35mm print! On the far-flung planet of Sirius 6B circa 2078, a misfit squad of soldiers attempts to negotiate a ceasefire in a forever war thatโs been perpetuated in part by the use of artificially intelligent, self-replicating weapons known as screamers. Nicknamed for the shrieking whirring of their blades and designed to hunt and kill any and all lifeforms, these machines have begun to evolve in both appearance and directives, and SNAFU ensues. If any of this sounds familiar, itโs a credit to the wide-reaching influence of Philip K. Dickโs short story โSecond Varietyโ, which inspired a pantheon of iconic kill-bots from The Terminator to Battlestar Galacticaโs Cylons (particularly the 2000s reboot) and serves as the source material for this sturdy CanCon cut of pulp sci-fi thrills. Shot in Quebec by genre stalwart Christian Duguay (heir to David Cronenbergโs Scanners), who was working from an adaptation inaugurated by Dan OโBannon (Alien, Total Recall) though eventually re-written by Miguel Tejada-Flores (the progenitor of Revenge of the Nerds), Screamers makes an entertaining vehicle for sparkly pyrotechnics and stop-motionโinfused scares. Further featuring interstellar politics and a smouldering Peter Weller (Robocop), no one will mistake it as an apogee of the genre, but itโs a nostalgic reminder of an era when fun schlock was well-produced and widely projected in theatres. Just ignore the rudimentary CGI, and focus on Deak Ferrandโs purdy matte paintings. PETER KUPLOWSKY
One nice thing about having a @tiffnet.bsky.social membership is I'll get to watch SCREAMERS on 35mm for free next month in a room full of Midnight Madness genre fans with an intro by @peterkapow.bsky.social and Liane Cunje. I didn't know it was filmed in Canada either.
