The page explains how the newly-announced Super Famicom has no backwards-compatibility with the old Famicom. The SFC will, however, have an A/V input on the back which will accept the A/V signals of the "Famicom Adaptor", the redesigned Famicom with A/V outputs. The image shows off the standard controller ports of the SFC, its expansion port on the front which would be moved to the bottom, an RGB multi out on the back which would get a redesign, and three features that would eventually get removed entirely: A/V input jacks on the back (for pass-through), a pass-through switch on the top, and a headphone jack with volume dial on the side.

This page shows the new A/V Famicom, named the "Famicom Adaptor", which is identical in features to the original Famicom, but replaces the RF output with mono A/V outputs, and controller ports in a pin arrangement shared with the prototype Super Famicom at that time. Until this point, any official Famicom from Nintendo itself never had any A/V outputs or detachable controllers, and so this model change rectifies that. It also brings the design in line with the prototype SFC while enabling the Famicom AV signal to be passed through the SFC to share one TV connection (and controllers, presumably). Section 3 on this page shows the new SFC controller design, with ABCD buttons on the face, and E/F buttons as triggers.

Here are higher-res scans of the first super Famicom announcement from Nov. 21, 1988, a full *two years* before the SFC finally hit store shelves in Japan. (I believe it's still necessary to bake an explanation into the scan itself, so I've done that.)
