However, it often goes unnoticed that Europe is making a significant effort to catch up. Italy, for example, is investing a a lot into making room for heavier and longer trains

Here’s a recent photo set from the MBTA Red Line and Amtrak coach yards in Boston.

A golden hour photo with sun glinting off an MBTA bilevel passenger train in downtown Worcester. The Union Station is in the background, and the CSX intermodal yard is to the left. The trains and station are framed with a blurry shadow of chainlink fence.

An MBTA “commuter” train approaches Worcester Union Station. It’s nice being able to use chainlink fence as a framing element rather than cursing it, like most railfans do.

Couldn't decide which of these 3 photos I liked the most. So I'll let you choose.

I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.

It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

Just because previous administrations didn't actively go to the extremes the current one is doesn't mean they didn't help build the path to it.

Well, I see another Pittsburgh area (Ross Township) bridge closed because of decay. Can’t be much older than about 1987: I remember when the freeway it spans opened.

Anyway, now the failing bridges are even younger than I am. That’s depressing.

Despite folks saying the anniversary was a few days ago, the famous Nazi book burning outside the Hirschfeld-run institute that treated queer and trans folks took place on May 10, 1933.

The building had been sacked 4 days earlier.

40 years before I was born, and we seem headed this way again.

All squared away.
