Debates Over Math Teaching Are Heating Up. They Could Affect Classrooms A controversial new movement promoting the "science of math" has come into the math establishment's crosshairs.

As a language researcher, I’m always curious what's intended/achieved by placing “the science of” in front of a subject area as a modifier. What are users attempting to signal with this phrase? How does it create in/out groups (and to proliferate spicy podcasts)?

Same here - I try to inspire myself by remembering that it's also the part where you get to be badass and finally come out and say what you want to say :)

The catch-22 of being told to: (1) Scrub your syllabi/program of DEI terminology so it doesn't get flagged, but also (2) Don't teach about content that wasn't advertised as part of the course. Then get fired either way.

Gone are the days of expecting the government to do its job to protect public health, so a small way we can enact the values of justice and love in our every day lives is to mask up if you're feeling sick.

It's how you say "I care about others" in a world devoid of compassion.
