Used cars are cheap because of new cars. Day-old bread it half price because of fresh bread.

This has been a housing policy post.

Real leadership for women isn’t about suddenly claiming the mic when it suits you. It’s about who you stood alongside when it was hard, who you made room for when you had power, and whether you used your influence when it counted, and not just when you want to hoard power.

These flimsy scandals were egged on by a braying online crowd which urged journalists to conflate sound with substance. The weird men online have endless reservoirs of psychological dysfunction and large expanses of time to marshall their obsessions into people’s mentions. More often than not, they win. Several former politicians have admitted that being subjected to monotonous daily abuse was a factor in their public breakdowns. Former prime minister Jacinda Ardern has moved to the US and still requires security escorts when she re-enters the country.

yes in this case Ray Chung seems to have tripped over some clown shoes straight into a trough of horse manure but the internet's weird men have found a lot of success doling out a heady mix of abuse and defamatory rumour, and our media has too often been complicit thespinoff.co.nz/politics/15-...

A play-by-play of Ray Chung’s train wreck interview with Sean Plunket What's even worse than a days-long PR crisis as a mayoral candidate? Getting owned by Sean Plunket.

That thumping sound you hear is Ray Chung’s lawyer concussing himself against his own desk.

Councillor Chung’s email represents a new low for local politics in this country. I have supported the Mayor through this type of nonsense since she was elected and will continue to do so. Please don’t vote for behaviour like this or anyone associated with it. It’s disgusting.

I could not be more stoked with the thirty percent increase in Wellington library users since we went fines free. Whatever else I get to do in local government, this will be a real highlight.

In my current work, I point to the invasion of Iraq 2003 as a moment where the public's trust in the foundational ideals of democracy, verification, deliberation, and accountability were systematically betrayed, destroying their trust in democratic systems.

Historical aside: Ruth Richardson became a life member of the Mont Pelerin Society after her infamous run as Minister of Finance in NZ. Deeply, unapologetically committed to the cause of reshaping the state to naturalise markets at the centre of all things, regardless of harm caused.

Mayoral hopeful faces scrutiny over conspiracy group links Ray Chung is under pressure to explain his campaign’s apparent connections to groups linked to anti-trans rhetoric, vaccine conspiracies and the 2022 Parliament occupation.

Please encourage anybody considering voting for Ray Chung or the IT candidates to read this about their links to extremist groups, or if you can, look at the Better Wellington socials to see what and who is driving this.

I think there's a period where a council shouldn't do anything but keep lights on. That period is between ballots being sent out & the new council being sworn in.

Genuinely bizarre & no basis in principle to suggest it's improper to continue implementation of decisions made by council *years* ago

Six shipbuilders shortlisted to deliver new Cook Strait ferries Ferry Holdings Limited was created by the government to lead contractual negotiations with shipyards and ports.

Government has announced a timeline, a design and say they have a defined budget, but they've only just shortlisted builders?

It really doesn't seem plausible.

Douglas Murray's sourcing for "On Democracies and Death Cults" is extremely sloppy. One paragraph is clearly paraphrased from a New Yorker piece that he does not credit.

Murray simply cannot be trusted to be accurate. Here are some receipts. 🧵

What is really baffling here is that one of Andrew Little’s most prominent commitments so far is to “make public transport cheaper” and while that is actually impossible for him to do (wrong council), what he could deliver is more bus improvements, including the long overdue ones on the Golden Mile!

Andrew Little on why we shouldn’t complete Golden Mile contracts. He’s wrong. Yes big decisions taper off after July recess up to the election, but this is not a new decision. This work has been coming for years, through multiple decisions over multiple councils. It’s happening.

I'm running! With our city (and world) the way it is, there's a need for constructive, pragmatic people at the table. If I'm lucky enough to receive the Greens nomination, I'll be asking for your help - for housing, infrastructure, for a Wellington where everyone can thrive.
