The opera was vividly brought to life through spectacular large scale works of art by artistic collaborators interpreting her drawings and stories.

Premiered in 2019 and commissioned by Opera on the Avalon and Tapestry Opera, Shanawdithit retraces the real life story of the title character Shanawdithit (1801-1829), who was believed to be the last known member of the Beothuk Nation (located in Newfoundland and Labrador).

In honour of the Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we're highlighting the opera Shanawdithit (Dean Burry and Yvette Nolan).
