To borrow a phrase from my boss, so much of what’s going on in our city is vile, racist, and disgusting.

But I’m grateful to be a part of this office and getting to see just how deeply CM Chavez cares about our communities and how much work he puts in to move us in the right direction.

When Frey says that he's going to veto the humane encampment response ordinance while maintaining his administration's encampment policies, that is him telling us that he's okay with this sort of thing. Same goes for the CMs that voted against the ordinance.

Minneapolis Council Member Jason Chavez's remarks on passage of a strengthened separation ordinance prohibiting city employees from enforcing federal immigration laws: "Since Dec 1 ICE agents have arrested more than 400 people in the Twin Cities, a majority of them with no criminal convictions."

Mayor Frey says he is already planning to veto this. A bare minimum policy.

This is in addition to his refusal to implement emergency housing vouchers & the expansion of stable homes stable schools earlier this year.

There’s no plan and no will to implement solutions that are funded.

We’ve taking a ton of action this week!

From our separation ordinance, passing budget that will support our immigrant neighbors, and passing resolutions demanding Mayor Frey to take further action. 4/

The resolution further called on Mayor Frey to end the use of so-called β€œless-lethal” weapons for crowd control against the people of Minneapolis and for any reason. 3/

We also approved a resolution expressing statements of position pertaining to MPD oversight and accountability (9-4).

Calling for the Mayor to update the corrective action discipline matrix to include discipline for violating the separation ordinance. 2/

If city personnel were to enforce federal immigration laws for the federal government, it would squander limited municipal resources, have deleterious effects on public safety, and have a chilling effect on immigrant populations' willingness to report crime and cooperate with the city's public safety efforts;
Whereas, although the federal government has the legal authority to enforce immigration laws in the United States, in Minnesota, and in the city, the city will not act or operate its programs for the purpose of enforcing federal immigration laws.
Additionally, it is the policy of the city to vigorously oppose any effort to require the use of city resources for the enforcement of federal immigration laws;
Whereas, if there are ever violations of the City of Minneapolis Separation ordinance by the Minneapolis Police Department, there should be transparent accountability and discipline processes in place;
Now Therefore Be It Resolved by The City Council of The City of Minneapolis:
The City Council supports including language in the upcoming police contract or in an updated discipline matrix to establish consequences for police officers who violate any current or future separation ordinances.
Be it Further Resolved that the City Council is requesting Mayor Frey and the Chief of Police to update the discipline matrix to include discipline for officers who violate the separation ordinance.
Be It Further Resolved that the City Council requests that these violations be placed in Category D, which includes 160 - 300 hours of suspension, demotion, and Category E, which would be termination.
Be It Further Resolved that the City Council opposes any use of so-called "less-lethal" weapons as crowd control against people in Minneapolis, and calls on the Mayor, the Police Chief, and any other person in a position of authority over law enforcement personnel to end the use of these weapons in Minneapolis.

It’s not likely that the situation above is related but it’s happening across Minneapolis where folks now leave their cars because that’s safer than going outside. Just very sad stuff.

If community members have capacity to help immigrant neighbors move their cars and help them get unstuck from the snow it would be super helpful.

Snow emergencies are going to get more difficult as many neighbors have been kidnapped while warming of their cars or while they are stuck.

U.S. citizen offered to show I.D. but was arrested by immigration officers in Cedar-Riverside A Somali U.S. citizen, Mubashir, was arrested by federal immigration officers in Cedar-Riverside Tuesday during a mass enforcement.

A Somali man from Minneapolis says officers refused to view his I.D. and drove him to immigration court and ICE offices before releasing him.

Minneapolis council committee moves to strengthen separation ordinance A Minneapolis council committee advanced tougher separation ordinance language Tuesday, limiting local enforcement of federal immigration law. A vote of the full Minneapolis City Council is expected T...

New language would forbid Minneapolis from entering into any agreements with federal immigration enforcement agencies. More than a half dozen law enforcement agencies in Minnesota have formal agreements with DHS to partner with ICE, and the measure would block the city from taking similar actions.

I cannot justify these increases while my constituents are paid poverty wages.

I do this job because of public service not because of money.
