Ooh yes! Absolutely. Spite is a great source of fuel when writing. Some of my best characters were born out of spite. It gives me a chance to say what I wish I could have said to the people who have upset/angered me at the time. The pen is mightier than the sword after all.

It probably has on a subconscious level, yes.
I'm writing the books, comics, stories, that I want to read. And the characters are loosely based on people who I know and want to know - these people often don't get the representation they deserve in literature.

Yes. One of the lead characters in the novel I am working on is a transman. Unfortunately, he is placed in a time & setting where his gender identity is questioned by transphobic individuals.
Likewise, in my short story 'Mum's boyfriend bites' the main character, a young witch, ponders about gender.
