Do they see the same colors as us, have the same cones and rods were the thoughts in the hiker's brain as the unseen buck bumped him over the edge to the pile of human bones below.

I am Vee, my brand is Eldritch Horror, and... *looks at manuscript* ...Yes. My answer is yes.

"The Cat, kittens~ Felines have an allure to them that makes them purrfectly suited to the creepy and macabre. How they can be both slender and graceful, yet pawsitively silly~ Spiders are also quite fitting, their webs almost needed~"
(Thought it would be fun to do it in char)

Moose. They are terrifying, but people don't seem to realize it. "Aww, moose! Adorable! Like deer, right?"
Hahah no. They weigh as much as a car and are, to their haunches, like 7 or 8 feet tall. When a predator attacks, they want a meal.

"You know, kitten, humans don't care about purring. Slinking in the dark? Normal. Staring at a spot? Pawsitively natural. Even them saying words~"
The Cat purrs, rubbing up against the man's leg, before smiling... Far too wide.
"But as soon as we talk, all hell breaks loose~"
Once more, I find myself showing up late. π
Bradley Ramsey here! Writer of sci-fi and cosmic horror, with the occasional horror-comedy as well.
Not quite the natural world, but I sometimes like to bring in cryptids (or cryptid-like creatures) into my work. π

I think what works best here is stories that use exaggerated (or mutated) forms of animals that we recognize. Sort of an "uncanny valley" approach, if you will.
So, for example, giant underwater sea creatures, or as I mentioned in my other response, cryptids.

So, I have a lot of deer where I live, and I also learned about the legend of the "Not Deer" last year, which inspired a flash fiction piece of mine on Substack.
So, deer at night would be my answer. The kind that just stare at you...

I spotted a bear near the woods. I followed it so I could take a photo. When I caught up to it, it was dead.
A group of deer had killed it. Their antlers were covered in blood.
They were eating it.
I left and never came back.

Dropping in my microfiction horror I did earlier this week. Featuring audio I recorded that nearly made me lose my voice. π

I write weird fiction and dreampunk mostly. My work doesn't usually fit neatly into the Horror section, but there's a certain level of existential horror that's pretty much always present.
I tend to write about the deep, dark, spooky woods, which is where I played as a kid.

Always alligators, can't help it, they were always lurking everywhere.

The man shuts down his computer, cages rattling behind him. Heβd injected the monkeys earlier, ignoring their cries. Noticing a cage door hanging open he frowns. Feels a sharp prick at his ankle. He lunges for the phone as the lethal virus courses through his veins.

Thanks for a fun one, Eryn!
My latest collection might be light on critters (thereβs some bugs and a ghost tries to interact with a catβ¦), but itβs full of the unsettling and the just out of view, in homes to the depths of space

Cat talks. My ex-husband used to tell me I was insane, until she shit on his seat (we were both moving out that week) and he kicked off of course, and she said, oh man, and he replied, with, yeah, oh man. And my daughter was like, I thought you said Cat doesn't speak?
She has like five words.
I am so glad to be here!

I was on a nature walk once, and found myself accidentally between some deer, splitting between six or seven of them on either side of the trail and the buck was eyeballing me something fierce.
Itβs the peaceful, timid animals suddenly becoming menacing.
Gosh, I wonβt pick spiders because not animals. Or any insects. But I fear those the worst. So beyond that Iβd say, those large eels, or leeches, or pirahnas!!!!

βHey, cutie,β Dr. Han said. She held out a hand, and the centipede sidewound off the fallen palla tree and onto her index finger.
She smiled.
It ambled up her hand, to her arm.
She shook her arm gently.
It bit her skin.
Dr. Han screamed, but it had already begun to burrow.
Ah, sweet, scary creature. The tiny beetle hung around dancing to Harry Styles and decapitating the tiny mites he caught for his dinner. His wife stared at him wondering why he didnβt eat his veggies and if sheβd need to behead him as well. π₯π
Iβm in a mood haha

I heard the owls outside and rushed, trying to get my camera ready and hoping they wouldnβt fly off as soon as I opened the door. But, it wasnβt just one or two, but several, dead on the ground. Meanwhile, on the pole I expected to see one, one was there, looking right at me.
