November is Native American Heritage Month, where we recognize the important history, traditions and languages of Native American, Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian communities both in present-day Arlington and across the country.

Today is Unity Day, part of Bullying Prevention Month. Today we wear orange to promote kindness, acceptance, and inclusion!

World Mental Health Day – Today we recognize World Mental Health Day, a day to raise awareness on mental health issues and support mental health care worldwide.

The @apsva.us College & Career Fair is taking place tonight from 6-8 pm at Thomas Jefferson Middle School. Two and four year colleges, military, and industry are represented and there to provide info and discussions with students. #OneTeamOneAPS

October is Learning Disabilities, Dyslexia and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Awareness Month. APS is committed to fostering inclusive schools and communities for our neurodivergent students, staff and family members.

October is Augmentative and Alternative Communications Month. We stand together to raise awareness on the diverse ways in which our students, staff, families and community connect with each other using various communication devices. Everyone deserves a voice!

This evening begins Rosh Hashanah, celebrating the Jewish New Year and a 10-day period of self-examination. APS Schools and Offices are closed tomorrow in observance of Rosh Hashanah. Shana Tova and Happy New Year to our students, families, and staff who are observing Rosh Hashanah this week!

Today begins, Hispanic Heritage Month, a month-long celebration of Hispanic and Latino history, culture, and contributions! This observance runs from September 15 to October 15.

: National Deaf Awareness Month, an opportunity to raise awareness and increase understanding of the needs and identities of those in the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community.

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, an opportunity for our community to raise awareness and encourage conversations around mental health.

APS Schools and Offices are Closed on September 1 in observance of Labor Day, which honors the contributions and achievements of the workforce.

APS Offices are closed today in observance of Independence Day, which commemorates the Declaration of Independence being approved by the Continental Congress in 1776, establishing the United States of America.

In July we honor Disability Pride Month, a time to recognize the history, experiences, contributions, and challenges of people with disabilities. It commemorates the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in 1990.

APS schools and offices are closed today to honor Juneteenth, a holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States after the Civil War, and an opportunity to celebrate African-American freedom and resiliency.

Tonight begins the 3-day observance of Eid al-Adha, meaning The Feast of Sacrifice. Eid Mubarak to our students, families and staff who are celebrating tonight, tomorrow and this weekend!
