Part of the reason I am so soft on Here We Are is just how much it musically steals from Passion.
Passion is Peak Sondheim and ya'll just don't get it.

Fondly reminiscence about the "Peanuts" comics because returning guest @jessemcanally.bsky.social and I discuss how we would adapt "Schulz and Peanuts: A Biography" by David Michaelis on the latest episode of the Adapt Me Podcast at this link: creators.spotify.com/pod/profile/...
03.07.2025 01:12 β π 5 π 2 π¬ 0 π 1It was so much going off the rails with @jessemcanally.bsky.social on this one, especially when it turned into a shameless ad for Michigan!
03.07.2025 01:51 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0π₯ CANDYMAN ALERT! π₯ This might be the best ep we ever do. Clive Barker's iconic horror masterpiece. Grad students in WAY too deep. Tony Todd's legendary performance. Haven't seen it? Fix that! We're buzzing to discuss! (get it, like beees) bpn.fm/cheese

30.05.2025 17:02 β π 7 π 5 π¬ 0 π 1Opinion: The debate over transgender rights is a liability for Democrats. Hereβs how to neutralize it, writes @thirdway.bsky.social think tank co-founder Jonathan Cowan.
Here's how you diffuse it (I'm not linking this pro-genocide article):
"It's weird that you're so obsessed with other people's genitals. Are you thinking about my genitals right now? Also, why do you hate freedom and science?"
Whatβs new pussycat???? Wooooahahhoo. (Brought to you by McDonalds)
17.05.2025 23:35 β π 9 π 3 π¬ 0 π 0Even something like West Wing and its ...interesting... take on the presidency was aspirational for the GS-9s of the 90s who could see an example of "good governance" and feel like they were making a difference in their own alienating jobs. People need the heroic myths.
10.05.2025 02:02 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Even Atticus needed to be appointed to do the right thing. It's not an efficient system that those with privilege sometimes need prodding before sticking their necks out for the marginalized, but sometimes people need that instruction. Some people need that kick in the butt that reveals injustice.
10.05.2025 02:02 β π 3 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0They recognized that they had privilege and they were able to deploy it to actually do good for people in an unfair system. That stuck with me. Hearing Cory Booker speaking on the Capitol, he told a very similar story of a white lawyer who helped his parents buy a house in a segregated community.
10.05.2025 02:02 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0White people need an "Atticus" because they need to realize they have some political agency over the marginalized. In school I learned about a group of white architects in apartheid SA who helped build a black community that would otherwise have been unable to navigate the racist state institutions.
10.05.2025 02:02 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0No one asked for my hot take but here goes: People need the Superman character because in a society as alienating as ours, people need aspirational figures to feel they can have any influence on it. Superman is an alien, he's distinct from the rest of the world but he loves it and does good in it.

09.05.2025 19:52 β π 9 π 3 π¬ 0 π 0"Miss Jean Louise? Miss Jean Louise, stand up! You're father's passing."
Instant tears. This episode also lead to some interesting conversations with Mike and I about how we teach people to consume media and literature :)
Listening to the episode, Iβm realizing I never actually finished the book cause my freshman year English teacher just decided to skip a bunch of chapters and showed us the court scene from the movie
