Wrapping up Day 2️⃣ of the 5th #SELINAWorkshop 🔍

The focus was on FIEA (Framework for Integrated Ecosystem Assessment) with sessions dedicated to Dialogue Across Functions. 🤝

In the afternoon, the partners visited a local tea company and then the field trip wrapped up with a relaxing picnic🌳☕

She also had the chance to learn from fellow researchers studying shags, owls, raptors, and burrowing petrels, gaining insights into new tagging techniques and species research. A season to remember!

🌟 Highlights included:
✨ Observing & listening to sooty shearwaters in their colony at night
✨ Helping organize the first-ever cruise landing on the island (with the Hanseatic)! 🚢

Back in January, @dianepavat.bsky.social wrapped up her last fieldwork of the season on Hummock Island, West Falklands, deploying GPS trackers on rockhopper penguins. But it wasn’t just about penguins!

Every site had to be visited twice,covering vast off-road terrain in all imaginable weather conditions.
Climate and biological data will be analyzed separately & together to uncover potential connections between invertebrate communities & environmental conditions.
A huge effort from the whole team!

Previously, PhD researcher @girl-in-a-bog.bsky.social had placed soil moisture loggers at 20 carefully selected sites, capturing a full range of soil, aspect, & vegetation types to monitor long-term rainfall & temperature patterns.

🌍🔬 Fieldwork Adventures on Weddell Island! 🏝️🐜
In November, PhD student Stephen Gillanders set out on a 5-day expedition to Weddell Island, joining Dr. Valeria Mazzola & the island management team in an ambitious data collection mission.

ROV dives are fully underway around #SouthSandwichIslands with @oceancensus.bsky.social @schmidtocean.bsky.social . In the first dive at around 400m, ROV landed on a fab coral garden (pic 3)!
