Walking to school this morning and the kid asked me what I was humming. "It's by a band called Jane's Addiction. They were a pretty cool band I used to listen to a lot back in the day."
"No it's not."
"It's not?"
"It's from Monster's Inc."
"No it's..." I hummed a little more. "Aw, it is, isn't it?!"

Van Gogh said something like "I start each day with hope and end it with despair," and I really feel that. You'd think it'd be the other way round on a Monday morning waiting to go to the day gig, but there you go.

Up since 3.45 AM, just about to set off for work and currently filled with the blackest, bitterest thoughts......coffee!... I meant coffee :) :)

Talking horror movies at work t'other day and somebody asked if I'd seen 'The Human Caterpillar" which, for some reason, sounds more horrifying than 'Human Centipede' 🤔

Trip to the shop enlivened by arrival of Gozer the Gozerian....

"Let's go for a walk in the countryside on a frosty December morn!" I said.

This was the reality...there's a good dialect word around here 'Clarted' which means absolutely covered in mud or muck.

We were clarted up to the eyeballs!

"The people in the song, laughing all the way. It sounds a little manic; like I imagine kamikaze pilots used to laugh."
"Sorry?"
"You know, right before they slammed into the side of an aircraft carrier."
"Right. Had a good Christmas?"
"There was a lot of staring." And away he went

We've had Christmas music playing over the speaker system at work.🙄.my favourite colleague, the cleaner ambled across as he was sweeping up errant glitter and tinsel just as "Jingle Bells" started
"I wonder what they were laughing about." He said.

I'm still signed up for job alerts from Indeed & they've just sent one for a factory in Scarborough. A requirement is that you be "psychically fit" which rules me out immediately....I suspect they've misspelled physically, unless McCains are looking for X-men.

Customer at work today gave me the catalogue number for an item she wanted. "It IS the Santa express, isn't it?" She asked. "The horny Santa one?"
"Well, I don't know how Santa's feeling" I said, "but that is the Christmas train set."
"Pardon?"
"It's 'Hornby', Mum," said her daughter. "Hornby."

Going to start cutting my work sandwiches into quarters so it feels like I'm at a buffet instead of in the office...maybe

Can't stop thinking about how there's a bottle of HP Sauce in Godfather 3.

Answered the phone at work today and, before a word left my lips, an excitable voice said, "Would YOU like a biscuit from the calendar for being a good boy?!"
I suppose the bloke was talking to his dog or whatever but, hell, I'll take that validation. 😂👍

Reading aloud a passage about Victorian novelists and accidentally read 'George Meredith' as 'George Megadeth'. Then there followed some domestic improv about the novels a writer with such a name might pen...#asyoudo

We were talking music at work and I mentioned I liked The Talking Heads. The cleaner argued that Thora Hird was in the band. "She wasn't." I said, imagining her in one of those big David Byrne suits. "Yes she was, she definitely was!" I'm gonna show him this picture tomorrow & tell him he was right

For decades I've been trying to find a clip of an American comic (maybe Norm Macdonald?) on a panel show discussing a random bloke who'd seen a 100ft vision of Jesus. The comic responded, "You've got to figure Jesus was a pretty tall guy!" I never laughed so much. The delivery was unforgettable.

We sell this light in the store and last night the Till Viking, ruminating on potential secret Santa gifts pointed to one of these and said, "I think she'd like this!"
"Really?"
"Oh yes," he said, "she loves cheese".
"It says 'cheers', mate."
He peered at it and after a moment said, "Does it?"

Been a quiet day. Cooked a roast dinner for the fam while listening to scores of episodes of Uncanny (the Danny robins podcast) Now trying to plot out the latest thing I'm writing while in a food coma. Sundays tend to drift by around here...

Tremendously well written and, yes, deeply unsettling. Loved it
