Tending to the Garden of American Democracy is Hard and Thankless Work In Jerzy Kosinskiโ€™s 1971 novel Being There, a simple gardener named Chance is mistaken for a political guru and quickly wows the Washington D.C. power brokers and kingmakers. Itโ€™s a marvelous studyโ€ฆ

Only an administration intent on committing war crimes in the present and future would stoop to calling Wounded Knee a "battle" rather than what it truly was: a massacre of over 250 Lakotas, mainly women, children, and the elderly. 1/

A common technique of Holocaust deniers is to look up Red Cross statistics for disease in the concentration camps, and insist this proves that Jews and Romani were not deliberately murdered.

Again it's all spelled out here, but we're looking for books that were published between 2013-2022 roughly and not covered by the NYT book review under Paul (and shoulda been). This is a collaboration btw me and @maris.bsky.social for @literaryhub.bsky.social

Iโ€™m working on an exciting new book reviews-related project in collaboration with Maris Kreizman for Lit Hub. Iโ€™m interested in receiving recommendations of books written by a trans and queer authors that you feel were overlooked by the NYT book review between ~2013 - 2022 (under Pamela Paulโ€™s leadership). If you are an author and you feel your book was overlooked, feel free to write me (or let me know on Bluesky). If you are a reader and you want to recommend a queer- or trans-authored book you adore that again the NYT did not review when it was released during this time-frame, again please feel free to let me know, either via this site or on Bluesky. If youโ€™re a book reviewer and you want to pitch a book to review for the aforementioned series, please pitch me via email. If youโ€™re interested in reviewing a book: Email me a paragraph or two explaining why this book in particular (not much longer). Please share a brief bio for yourself and a website. Also include a couple of your best clips, ideally previously published book reviews. Please reach out via my contact form. Book reviewers: This is a paid opportunity; Iโ€™m just coordinating on behalf of the publication; theyโ€™re saying $250 per ~800 - 1000 word review (and weโ€™ll be assigning many so please tell your friends about this too, if theyโ€™re also book reviewers). We may have some flexibility, depending on what the outlet decides. I will discuss further specifics with those whose pitches we follow up with. Thank you! We are setting a September 1 deadline.

Thank you @jonnydiamond.bsky.social for greenlighting this!! Thanks everybody who's already sent in pitches and ideas. Again, now have a September 1 deadline and we'll circle back with folks after then.

Will journalists across the world speak out on the murder of their fellow journalists? Or will many remain quiet as they have before on the intentional murder of their colleagues for doing their work?

The Israeli murder of Palestinian journalists is always intentional, always met with silence. And that's why it keeps happening. don't look away
