The Kim Lab (sskimlab.org) at UC Irvine is recruiting motivated grad students interested in uncovering how transcriptional regulators direct cell fates. We accept students through the CMB (cmb.uci.edu) and MCSB (ccbs.uci.edu/education/mcsb/) PhD programs. Please share with prospective grad students!

How do non-coding variants in enhancers lead to disease? Happy to share our recent work, led by @ewholling.bsky.social, in which we discovered that poised chromatin sensitizes enhancers to aberrant activation by non-coding mutations, contributing to disease. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1... 1/

DNA-guided transcription factor interactions extend human gene regulatory code - Nature
A large-scale analysis of DNA-bound transcription factors (TFs) shows how the presence of DNA markedly affects the landscape of TF interactions, and identifies composite motifs that are recognized by ...
A tour de force study from Taipale&Yin labs. It expands the vocabulary of the Regulatory Code by adding 1131 TF:TF composite motifs that are different from the individual TF motifs. The new composite motifs are enriched in cell-type specific elements and active in vivo

Before I start, let me thank the brave folks within NIH who have shared information, hints, and other materials that have helped me sort this out. I donโt know most of your names and, even if I did, no one would ever hear them from me.
So here is what appears to be going onโฆ

Just received notice that my NIH study section next week has been cancelled. It has nothing to do with DEI and will have a negative impact on critical cancer research.

NIH council meeting (NIDCR)scheduled for today, where our R01 grant (3rd percentile) was supposed to be discussed, was postponed indefinitely as a consequence of Trump's executive order which ordered pausing of all communications from all federal agencies. Not good.
