Difficult to pick a #NSL2025 #TotW - purely as Thunder were so amazing, & it feels wrong to leave any of them out...

I woke up in agony in the early hours of this morning having clearly been dreaming about Netball, as I thought I'd done my knee in somehow! I could not straighten my leg at all & the pain behind my knee was insane. Managed to gradually bend it further & eventually the pain eased!

Players from last year who weren't signed to a club this year (or went to NxtGen)

Just for fun, here's how many players from each #NSL2025 team I'd pick for a team of unlimited size (I'm only considering players I'm fairly familiar with):
Panthers: 4/8
Dragons: 3/8
Lightning: 7/9
Mavericks: 7/9
Forest: 6/9
Pulse: 10/10
Thunder: 12/14
Rhinos: 4/5
No Club: 8/25

To summarise NSL injuries/"medical conditions" so far:
Pulse & Forest: 0
Dragons, Lightning, & Rhinos: 1

15% (12) of the players initially signed for 2025 have missed at least one game
6.25% (5) have missed 1 game
8.75% (7) have missed 2 games

Watched some of the Team Girls Cup last night. The coverage is mad compared to over here. The execs from @SkyNetball & @BBCSport should be made to watch even just ½ a game & be told "this is what you need to do". You don't see poor quality or missing clocks in football. #Netball

Nope, it was just the lower tier. This photo was taken about 25 mins before the start. A few more did come in, but not a significant amount. NSL's arena target is 3.5k-5k - this was perhaps 3500 just. Belle Vue is usually close to a sell-out & that's ~2000. Maybe shut both ends & just use the sides?

AO Arena, Manchester. I swear the place was designed for dwarves or children. Imagine being 6ft+ and having someone sat either side of you - you just wouldn't be able to fit your legs in! My feet were as far forward as I could get them and my knees were still in front of my feet. Seriously painful!

I bought a season ticket & will be going to the arena game in Liverpool (even though it'll cost me a fair whack to get there & back), but from next season, I will not be going to arena games. It's a shame, as I love watching the girls play, but I just don't enjoy going to them.

The Arena was barely 2/3 full - Sunday afternoons/evenings are not the right time for Arena games - they need to be Friday night or Saturdays. The staff are obnoxious & disinterested, & refreshment prices are extortionate. NSL needs to put this idea on the back burner for now.

I've never liked the idea of the super shot & nothing I've seen has changed that. Yes, it's nice when you score one, but it's awful when your opponent does. It feels artificial - especially with it being only 5 mins. Also "Soft & Gentle" are absolutely the wrong sponsor for it!

In terms of the overall game day experience, I only turned up for the main event. There's no way I could have sat in that chair any longer. My knees were hurting after less than 10 minutes - I'm only 5'9" and I had no leg room. I feel for people who were any taller...

Indya did well when she came on, but Lightning shut down all the channels & as they're so tall, she was struggling to get the ball in at times, but that won't be the case every week. I'd have liked to try Indya @ C & Emma @ WA for Q4. Up top, Elmerè was busy doing Elmerè things.

Our shooters did as well as they could - playing against a defender as good as Shadine when she knows your game inside out is brutal. I love Anya - she's such a talent, but being so slight, she can't body up to strong defenders. Lucy shoots less, I feel, but holds better.

Tay getting suspended (& subsequently kept out of the game because umpires are overly/unfairly critical of players who have been suspended) was unfortunate. Josie, Elia, & Ané all did well in defence, but their shooters were just too good & would have beaten any defence, I feel.

I thought we competed well in the midcourt - in particular Captain Fantastic Amy on her 100th appearance & Emma Rayner were both great. Amy is just a solid presence & Emma ran & ran & ran (literally) for 58 minutes. She was our player of the match for me.

Very tough game to watch tonight as a Thunder fan. We were never even level, let alone in front. It's tough playing the best team in the league when your team is decimated by injuries. The girls all did really well & gave it their all, but we don't match up well against Lightning

and as soon as it goes out of court. Too much time wasting.

I thought the midcourt was fairly even, but their defence certainly had the better of our attack & their attack were too good for our defence - shooting from the 2pt area even outside of the last 5 minutes of each quarter is a tough one to take.

So NZ & Jamaica move a bit closer to Australia. EN lose a net 6RP on both, & 5 to SA. Wales move up 3 places to 6th, Tonga drop 2 places, NI drop a place, Samoa move up 4 places with Barbados dropping 4. Grenada drop out of the top 20 & are replaced by Botswana.
