In the Rohingya refugee camps, Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, for conducting fieldwork this morning! I always feel deep attachment with the field and people rather than living in metropolitan and urban settings!

RML's panel discussion on the 8th #Rohingya Genocide Remembrance Day 2025 was a fantastic one. Dr. Ibrahim, Prof. Shahab Khan, Dr. Lee, and Sis Razia were brilliant in discussing its legal, political and practical implications. Please find the recorded video here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=8G6w...

In a red brick arch under a bridge, a middle-aged blond man receives the ministrations of pigeons.

I asked if I could take his picture. Yes. I stepped across a band of shit. The pigeons began to frighten. Too close. A cloud of gray & blue & pink rushed at me. He looked up. Bare of birds. He said nothing. I stepped back. The birds returned. Together they ate. He said “Now,” & I took my picture.

In my field, a little goes a long way. So why must we chase large grants? More research council funding in the humanities and social sciences should be distributed in the form of micro-grants, says Peter Sutoris

Very good piece to understand why researchers need fund for doing good quality research. Also, conditional funds reduce the quality of research and challenge the academic freedom. Unfortunately, the challenges are mounting across the world, particularly in the US and the UK academia.
