β€œCanada’s position remains clear: the Islamic Republic of Iran is the principal source of instability and terror throughout the Middle East.”

It’s not possible to produce satire that matches Canada’s PM @mark-carney.bsky.social’s abdication of all moral authority here.

Israel literally started it!

Academic freedom simply doesn’t exist if tenure decisions are influenced by *financial concerns.*

We can't lament enough how sinister the attack on higher ed across this nation is especially worrying for the fact that the devastation will not be felt until decades from now, when it's too late. That and the complete dismissal of 'soft skills' is exactly why were in this mess to begin with.

All this neolib talk of provinces gaining β€œcompetitive advantages” and having β€œskilled workforces” while they just bulldoze the higher ed that would make those happen.

Gutting higher ed is simply a war on all workers and should be resisted as such.

Proposed higher education cuts will subordinate New Brunswick As Susan Holt’s Liberal Government announces devastating cuts to the province's post-secondary education sector, universities and colleges across the region

"Holt has claimed to reverse course on the STU-UNB merger plans and Mount Allison privatization scheme, but that may be little more than sleight of hand to distract from the real target: a classic neoliberal transfer of wealth from the public sector to the private."

NEW piece on NB Holt debacle.

I def think that is the appropriate framing and for sure our futures from education to healthcare are being not only vandalized, but likely subject to full on arson

Cannibalizing tomorrow to pad today's ledger is sheer civic vandalism. The NB gov.’s proposed slaughter of higher ed betrays an entire generation.

Higher education on the chopping block in New Brunswick New Brunswick’s universities are under threat. The province’s Liberal government is eyeing a 10 percent budget cut while freezing tuition, putting thriving institutions like Mount Allison and UNB at r...

The Liberal government of NB is proposing to sabotage our thriving higher ed sector.

It's hard to tell if this is incompetence, malice, or neoliberal disaster capitalism.

Regardless, it's not too late to turn back.

If faculty unions want broad support from other workers, there must be a shift in thinking amongst them to consider the ways they use their own resources and skills to contribute to the labour movement in tangible ways, rather than remaining on the sidelines watching.

Coming from a manufacturing union family to a higher ed union I’ve seen how quickly may faculty will turn their back on those workers and completely forget about their struggle, as if it is disconnected from their own.

I have a lot of thoughts about the efficacy of higher ed unions working with the broader labour movement. It’s absolutely vital to do so now more than ever.

The problem is faculty have (mostly) turned their nose up at these opportunities and continue to view themselves not as β€œworkers.”

Governments everywhere are realizing they can gut funding to higher education and the base won’t bat an eye.

Faculty associations, faculty and staff unions, student and lobby groups need to coordinate and respond in meaningful ways if we want this trend to stop.
