I really loved visiting China, including using my mediocre Mandarin conversational skills. I'm hoping my country and China have better, more welcoming governments in the future.

I saw parallels between China and the US--multi-culturality! But also parallels where supremacy of one ethnic group to the detriment of indigenous peoples, diversity, and plain socioeconomic sustainability of structurally disadvantaged groups.

I was fortunate to spend a summer in 2009 in China and it was amazing. My summer included a week in the Uighur-majority province of Xinjiang and Han-majority cities like Nanjing and Beijing.

I solidly agree.

I wouldn't visit the US if I wasn't a citizen. For parallel concern about the Xi's authoritarian government in China, I have a similar personal stance against returning to China until their government changes their approach to human rights.
