Super interesting read that made me more considerate of the language used around "safety tools" in ttrpgs. I've also seen this shift in public drop in drop out games, with pause/communication tools being more prominent over a hard X card style stop

Always double check that players are also bought in on replacing some rolls (most players will say yes with a big grin on their face), make sure to frame it correctly within the narrative and as an added bonus, they make great mementos for players who've been impacted by a Big Coin Moment 🪙

I've been using a coin toss to replace some #DnD rolls for a while. Big Coin Moments™️ frame certain outcomes as letting the gods/fate decide. For narrative moments that technically break the rules, a coin flip takes the pressure off the GM to make a call but offers the excitement of "will it work"

Tales from the Loop has a really good starter box set.
Classic sci-fi/horror you should check out Mothership. If you get the core set it's got everything you need including 'Another Bug Hunt' which is a fantastic introduction.

Approaching it like this removes the stress of regular scheduling and "campaign prep" but more importantly lets you find your feet and try things out before jumping into a whole campaign. If you need recs for GM friendly starter adventures let me know.

You need zero experience to start out as a GM but my advice would be to take it in smaller chunks before starting a whole campaign. Start with a 2-3 hour one-shot or intro adventure. Then do another. Then another. Then link those stories together if you want and kick off your campaign!
