Federal Workers Have A Request Of Democrats As The Shutdown Drags On Furloughed federal employees are about to start missing paychecks, but they aren't ready to give in yet: "We are willing to take some temporary pain."

β€œWhat kind of person would I be if I went with what works best for me versus what works best for the collective?”

Spoken like a true civil servant.

When Adoption Promises Are Broken Many birth mothers hope to maintain contact with their child. But their agreements with adoptive parents can be fragile.

Finally got a chance to sit down and read all the way through this powerful piece by @nicolechung.bsky.social about the realities of open adoption. A must read, as are her memoirs.

Also Nicole is one of the editors who worked on #EdgeOfSpaceTime and you should hire her to work on your book.

Kotzebue has issued a mandatory evacuation order as flooding from coastal storm begins Water could rise as much as 10 feet above the high tide line, according the National Weather Service

Another "storm of the century" is hitting Kotzebue, for the second year in a row. Last year's storm almost took out my dad's house. Woke up to videos of the flooding and it's already bad. They are expected to get another storm after this one passes.

N95 offers an order of magnitude better source control than surgical masks and should always be used for seriously immunocompromised patients.

Always.

Since before COVID-19.

I am pleased that we are following CALIFORNIA department of public health vaccination guidelines. Note: COVID vaccine will be given to 'all those who choose protection'.

As an ICU physician, I advise you to CHOOSE PROTECTION. I've seen too many bad cases.

I hope people realize that no matter what path they take to seek emergency relief, they need to start the process now, especially with the holiday weekend in between now and then.

There’s not enough AER money to sustain the entire force. It sucks seeing people getting denied for the loans through the banks too or being told to go to the chaplain or the food pantry. So many people were already doing that

The Army Emergency Relief web page is crashing right now as the entire military grapples with the reality that they're probably not getting paid next week.

It’s such a vital aspect of local cultural reporting, so much more than just what’s on a plate. Tom Sietsema was truly one of the greats & WaPo’s food coverage was so good for so long & it’s such a loss (Disclosure: pre-Covid, Eric was part of WaPo critic Tim Carmen’s dining posse, but not a writer)

Massachusetts Health Connector?

That's what we call the Affordable Care Act.

MassHealth?

That's Medicaid and CHIP.

Trump and Republicans are attacking the millions of Massachusetts residents who rely on these programs to survive.

Leadership and ethics matter most when they cost. No temptation, no honor.

Without an understanding of immune tolerance, organ transplantation will not be possible. Also, their discoveries opened avenues for cancer and auto immune disease therapies.
Congratulations to these year's awardees of the nobel prize in physiology or medicine.

BANNED BOOKS WEEK Oct. 5-11, 2025. Censorship is so 1984 - Read for Your Rights. ala.org/bbooks. American Library Association

Censorship is so 1984. Read for your rights.

Today kicks off #BannedBooksWeek, and this year's theme reminds us that the right to read belongs to all of us, that censorship has no place in contemporary society, and that we must defend our rights.
