At the Australasian Council of Deans of Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities conference. Should be an βinterestingβ couple of days with all the downsizing and change plans across the sectorβ¦. Also, authoritarianism!
24.09.2025 09:06 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Little Bands event at the Regional and Remote Music Summit in Byron Bay. Curated by Stuart Grant of the Primitive Calculators fame. Ad hoc bands in the local record store. 3 songs each band. No rehearsing allowed. One gig only. Ephemeral and beautifully grounding!
23.07.2025 10:02 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 044 years ago. Seeing the Cure for the first time in Sydney - at the Capitol Theatre. I was still at school and they were just starting to take off. Carnage Visors / Faith tour. They blew my mind. So good I went twice!
07.06.2025 23:08 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Lovely early morning Sydney Harbour walk and coffee at Elizabeth Bay.
26.04.2025 00:57 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Listening back now, it transports me back to the field, recording for 2 hours straight at dusk as the wires were cooling down from the heat of the sun, trying to keep Alan quiet (!!) as he enthused wildly about his theories of aeolian music. Vale Alan. A remarkable Australian composer.
25.04.2025 23:55 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It was then released in stereo in 2000 on the Social Interiors CD βSpatial Circumferenceβ. It got lots of outings in the 1990s and really moved some air with the subsonics. It needs a full range, high res sound system to really work, or headphones with good bass response.
25.04.2025 23:55 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Wiring up contact mics and putting on headphones to listen to the sound on the wires was one of the most exciting musical moments of my career. I subsequently made a work from that day, βSilent Latitudes [for Alan Lamb]β in 1993 which wasnβt premiered until a 1997 watt concert, in 5.1 surround.
25.04.2025 23:55 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I first met Alan when I did a residency at PICA - Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts in 1993 and he took Rik Rue and I out recording his wires, which were then on a property in Baldivis, WA.
25.04.2025 23:55 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Sad to hear that composer Alan Lamb passed away recently. His other worldly aeolian wire music made a huge impression on me as a younger composer.
25.04.2025 23:55 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0From the archives. John Cage memorial concert. ABC Ultimo. 1992. Looks like I played twice! Once with OHM and once with Stevie Wishart
20.04.2025 07:20 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0First demo tape I ever recorded. Sent to Phantom Records in 1988 and after a beer and a handshake with Jules Normington in a pub, became my first ever vinyl release βEverything/She Saidβ (PH-31) - purple vinyl no less. The demo songs were never re-recorded. They became the release.
