As someone for whom Clarke was vitality important when I was young, relentlessly bullied, & needed an escape, I couldn’t disagree more with what you’ve said. Some of their stuff’s important from an historical perspective, but there’s so much more (& better) & we have moved past them in so many ways.

Not trying to be contrary, but do you have more info on Clarke as a child molester? The only thing controversial I remember reading about was an allegation by someone who was an adult, but I thought I remembered that just being someone wanting to blackmail him about being gay (I could be wrong.)

I did not expect that throwaway thought from yesterday to take off so here’s a thread about bathroom access and human health. It’s bleak, but it’s really important to illustrate how the framing about “comfort” is intentionally used to obscure a whole range of downstream, intentional lasting harms.

Tired of this "both sides suck" and "we need unity" horseshit. We do NOT need "unity" with anyone willing to take rights and freedoms away from people, full stop. You know why our country is "divided"? Because there's people wanting to institute fascism, and people willing to allow fascism.

Even their own actions justify their hate. “Look at what YOU made me do.”

I’ve seen it tons of times. “Look! Your bigotry isn’t just hurting trans people, but cis people as well!” “Shrug. We wouldn’t have to do this if it weren’t for those filthy <insert slur here>, so really it’s THEIR fault, which is why we have to keep doing this.”

The worst part (well, one of many worst parts) is how every fascist terf will turn around to blame trans folx merely EXISTING for the harm their bigotry does to cis people.

It’s never about protecting women. That’s just an excuse to justify their desire to have someone they’re “allowed” to oppress.

Listen, their decades of virulent bigotry disguised as “satire” while mocking earnest advocacy may have had a direct hand in creating the perfect environment for our current horrors to thrive, but also they made childish insults against people we don’t like, so that totally makes it all ok, right?

The trans panic is maddening, because trans people are expected to defend ourselves with logic science and any sign of emotion is a failure.

In fact, when Hermione stands up against the slavery of elves, she's treated as some kind of ridiculous Soapbox Sadie. For opposing chattel slavery. In the end, the biggest force for change is Voldemort and Harry and firiends only ever fight for the preservation and reproduction of the status quo. The very height of Harry's dreams is to join the aurors, a sort of wizard FBI and the ultimate defenders of the wizarding status quo. Voldemort and the Death Eaters are the big instigators of change and Harry never quite gets to Voldy's level. Harry doesn't even beat Voldemort, Voldemort accidentally kills himself because he violated some obscure technicality that causes one of his spells to bounce back at him. And this is really the struggle of liberals, they live in a world fraught with conflict, but aren't particularly bothered by any of it except those bit that threaten multicultural pluralism. They see change, and the force behind that change, as a wholly negative phenomenon. Even then, they can only act within the legal and ideological framework of their society. So, for instance, instead of organizing insurrectionary and disruptive activity against Trump and the far-right, all they can do is bang their drum about what a racist bigot he is and hope they can catch him violating some technicality that will allow them to have him impeached or at least destroy his political clout. It won't work, it will never work, but that's the limit of liberalism just as it was the limit of Harry Potter.

I like that they seem to be keeping the over-the-top action of the first movie (even if it’s conceptually closer to the book.) Contrasts nicely with the upcoming Long Walk film that looks like it will be much more serious.

This really sucks. I play Genshin on PS4; I HATE the touch-screen controls on the phone. Sure, I could sync a PS4 controller to my phone, but that means playing on a tiny screen without the ability to easily stream.

I was already feeling a little burned out, but I think this killed the game for me.
