Today I visited Clonmeen cemetery where Hebridean warlord Alasdair MacColla 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 was buried following the Battle of Knocknanuss 🇮🇪 in 1647. The story of how this MacDonald clansman from the Inner Hebrides ended up in the south of Ireland is both fascinating and harrowing.

Lexus are doing interesting things having branched out from languages books to children's books, memoirs and now history too. Their content, design, originality and professionalism is second to none.

Flattered that my book Scotland's Turmoil - which comes out in around a fortnight - will be the first book published by Lexus Books' new imprint Historia. Here's to it being the first of many! 🥃

Another family day out. Had a lovely time at Athlone Castle 🏰, even if anti-immigration protesters tried to siege the castle (no joke!). Hats off to Heritage Week for free entry, and to the Society for Creative Anachronism for historical reenactment - the medieval lathe shown was fantastic.
