I don't have insight into Anthropic's design process, but I'd guess they were going for something like a stylized aperture, iris, or abstract representation of perspective/vision. The geometric radial pattern is pretty common in tech branding. But yeah, once you see it, it's hard to unsee. Not the first logo to have that problem - there's a whole internet subgenre of "unfortunate logo designs."

Claude just threw up his AI hands instead of trying to defend the logo his corporate parents gave him.

A whole lot of words saying you'll do nothing.

weslittledrums_weslove We live in a culture that not only encourages outrage, it requires it for the necessary divisiveness that fuels the hierarchal order for those that benefit from it. That's why we all have many, many opinionated, emotional grievances and many, many guns in this country - more than we have people. This is a dangerous "tinderbox" combination and usually the innocent end up hurt or killed. I think that we can all agree that a weapon that can fire a 5.56/.223 round from an extended magazine must be kept away from the mentally disturbed/ill. However, we live in an American society in which we have ridiculously easy access to both legal and illegal firearms and the culture is one that the gun is the first solution to a conflict as opposed to being the absolute last. This has permeated our thinking on how we deal with conflict and our emotions. While the Constitution says we have the right "to keep and bear arms" the first phrase speaks of "a well regulated militia" in the second amendment. It is clear that we are not regulating these firearms well. •• •

That usually also assumes that the bad person has already started shooting. It seems much more logical to me to not give them the capability to start shooting. That can be limiting their access to guns, mental health counseling, mental screenings, etc. We will need a lot less "good guys" with guns if we keep the legal and illegal guns out of the hands of the bad guys. No matter how many "good guys" we have, they will always be responding to a shooting. Better to prevent it for the sake of the innocent. .. .
