"Have you ever thought...maybe *our* thoughts are just word that get matched up cause we've seen them together a lot. Like, maybe we thinking we're thinking but we're...not."
"Yeah, there should be a scientific study of what thinking is. Like, with classes and stuff."

Fascinating read, and I wonder how this relates to standards-based learning in K12. Are we prioritizing knowing/SWBAT over learning? Even if learning is the outcome (rather than product), are we robbing students of full participation in process in our race to get to the learning outcome?

Used to be you were a willing participant in setting your clock forward. Now technology coerces you into the time change, sometimes without your own knowledge.
(Yes this is a silly post)

The success of this "AI" project relies on convincing people that they know less than they do, that they are less capable than they actually are. Then deskilling makes it a a self-fulfilling prophesy.

I looked them up, but it doesn't say anything about them teaching creationism, and I see evidence of evolution in the . Can you point to where you found that? Also, their curriculum pages show them teaching US history in 6th, 9th and 12th grade. Maybe we're looking at different things?

But do you have any evidence of schools teaching these things on any sort of scale? Based on state standards, teachers are not supposed to be teaching creationism in Earth Science or Life Science classes in these states. The federal government doesn't "allow" states to set certain science standards.

I'm not sure what you mean by your statement then, because all of those states have biological evolution as part of their academic standards, and none have creationism.

Neither do I, but they can be better

Every time they say "distraction," they mean, "not my priority," but they know how horrible it sounds to say that about attacking people. It's cover for not caring about other people as much as they know they should.

Interviewing for my current job, they mentioned the importance of "teaching students to use [LLM chatbots] ethically." I said, "If it's even possible to use them ethically." A beat of silence, and the conversation moved on. To all the "pragmatists", critical refusal is a very practical strategy.

Years ago, I sat in a classroom and listened to this "AI researcher" justify the position that girls aren't as good as math as boys are. When I argued back, he blustered and changed the subject. If you'd asked me to guess which one of my professors was in the Epstein Files, it'd have been him.

I had women at the university warn me about him when I was there. Not everyone thought it was just an entertaining shtick.

He was really awful in person. And women at the university (professors, TA's) would warn us about him. Looking back, it's so awful we have to have a secret red flag network, but no one felt like they could do anything about it. We just kind of accepted it as the way it had to be.

I have a wild idea that maybe it's a big publicity stunt, doesn't work at all, but is intended to get lots of attention so its creator can build up a base for getting investor funding for whatever. This is amazing free publicity for this person.
