Lieber's novelette is basically a play set in a 'recuperation station' in a time war. It features Lunans from a billion years in the past as well as an ancient Cretan warrior! And manages to be pretty respectful about sexwork!

One of the main characters of the book is called Boneforte. Listen for when Christine accidentally calls him Bonefart! (Everyone loves a good fart joke; except it really was an accident.)

Okay, friends: ep 2 of Hugo History is coming out tomorrow at 9am PST in all the places you find your podcasts! @robtomshany.bsky.social and I are discussing Mark Clifton and Frank Riley's They'd Rather Be Right, which is often considered THE WORST BOOK to ever win the Hugo!

I'm in on this! In preparation, I also read (most of) the collection The Science Fiction of Mark Clifton, none of the stories in which I'd ever encountered before. Does They'd Rather Be Right hold up by comparison? Find out on August 14th!

I was expecting the misogyny! It was the 'creepy sex shit' that got me. (With the caveat that I want consenting adults to be able to do whatever they want, but that's not what was portrayed in the book.) -- Christine
