I passed the second of the three MTEL tests, while running a grassroots campaign, and chasing 3 kids under 5! ππ»πͺπΌ

The work never ends when youβre a mom and a grassroots candidate- even when your foot needs rest and ice. Iβm trying to purchase votebuilder because itβll help me door knock more efficiently and safely. Itβs $700 and Iβm $175 away. Can you help me get there? Go to christinerickmon.com & find donate

19.07.2025 22:19 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0While canvassing to hand out my palm cards, I knocked on a door hoping to speak to a woman listed as an unenrolled (independent) voter. Her husband answered. I introduced myself.
π§΅
So Iβm asking:
If you can help me afford VoteBuilder, Iβd be so grateful.
Itβs not just about efficiencyβitβs about safety.

Iβve been using homemade turf maps to canvass. I didnβt want to pay $700 for VoteBuilder.
But VoteBuilder would let me reach voters by phone or emailβand avoid another confrontation like this.

My very existence bothered him. Woman. Mom. Transplant. Democrat. It felt like it broke something inside him.
9/11
But the truth isβI didnβt feel safe around that guy.
He told me he was a retired cop. He was emotionally escalating. And I didnβt feel comfortable turning my back to him, which is why I didnβt just walk away mid sentence.
8/11
I kept walking.
To the next house. And the next. Because he doesnβt get to decide who belongs in Agawam. He doesnβt speak for everyone. And he sure as hell doesnβt scare me off.
7/11
Yes. They live here. With me. Their mom. Who is running for City Council.
Then he tried to quiz me on Agawam. I answered. He got angrier.
βWhereβs your husband work?β
βHartford.β
ποΈ βBye.β And he stormed into the house.
6/11
He asked:
βWhere did you grow up?β
βIllinois.β
βAnd youβre running here?β
βYes. I live here.β
βDo your kids even live here?β
5/11
I told him this is a nonpartisan race. That Iβm running to improve parks and recreation, increase transparency, and support working families. As I spoke, his face got redder. Arms crossed. Anger rising.
4/11
I walked away and made notes in my Google form.
Then he came back outside to call after me. Said he didnβt want me to think he was rude. Said he was a retired cop. Said he was βskeptical.β
3/11
Mid-sentence, he cut me off:
βWhat party are you registered as?β
I answered honestlyβDemocrat.
He threw up his hand towards my face and said:
ποΈ βNope. No. Bye.β

04.07.2025 17:47 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Just posted a new blog: Agawam could be doing betterβfor everyone.
Not just for one group or one building, but for the whole community.
That means kids, families, workers, seniorsβall of us.
Letβs stop treating fairness like itβs a limited resource.

Agawam put a press release that was blurry and hard to read about a grant we earned. I break it down in the video below. ππΌ

That is a brilliant idea. This is exactly why local government should regularly ask residents for input.
24.06.2025 11:59 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0π£ I gave a speech at our campaign BBQβand like most things in my life, it featured my 4-year-old asking questions mid-sentence and hunting for a toy.
This campaign is about real lifeβwhat families face and how our town can help.
Itβs not polished politicsβitβs honest conversation. Iβm proud of that.

Iβm on TikTok nowβsharing pieces of my campaign, why Iβm running, and the reality of being a grassroots candidate in Agawam.
Thereβs also some lighter stuff too, like me trying (and failing) to pronounce Massachusetts towns π

After teaching in Florida and seeing my kindergartners take 10 standardized tests in 2 weeks, I knew we needed a change.
We found Agawamβand it felt like home.
Now Iβm running for City Council to help make this a town where more families can thrive.
